I am trying to verify my numbers on my 68 Charger and the only thing I can find on the block is the stamping is as follows:  PT383R24911067.  It is on the bottom of the block next to the oil pan.  I cant find anythign to decode it though and it doesn't match my VIN?

Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks,
Jon

A 68 may not have anything that matches the VIN, it started partway through the year.  I believe that stamping was on the bellhousing flange near the oil sending unit on the 68's as well?

The pt383 number is the production number and unrelated to your Vin/build sheet

Interesting.....  I do see that there is a date on the block 4/67 and I know I have an early 68 model, however that sounds a bit too early.  There is no stamping near the oil sending unit.  So for the early 68's there is no way to know if that block is related to the car?  I wonder what all those numbers mean then?  Obviously put there for a reason?

Thanks,
Jon

Here's a picture of the markings:

My early (Dec 67 build) 68 does have the marking.

My tranny also has no markings on it?

PT383R24911067

PT= Plant Trenton
383= Displacement
R= Regular fuel
2491= Build date May 23, 1968 (which is fairly late '68)
1067= Sequence number, the 1067th built that day

It's not all that unusual to see a long spread between the casting date and the build date.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John, thank you. This is good info. May is late, I was told it was an early build.

Many thanks guys!

???

Production went through mid July. There would still be two months left in the model year.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.
