People are putting their modern chargers in the garage to, 'preserve' them from winter abuse?  Maybe its just me, but you just bought a 50k car and you are not gonna drive it thinking it will be worth something in the future?

myk

Eh, if I had a choice I wouldn't drive a nice car like a Charger in the snow.  That's what Ford Escapes and Subarus are for...

Ghoste

Me too.  Its not about preserving it for future value its about keeping it around to enjoy as long as possible.  Winters here are brutal on cars.

Unless you have a base version, Id drive that in the winter.  Im talking Challengers and SRTs and such.

myk

Do the higher end Chargers come with AWD or something to help with the snow?

War wagon

The Hellcat I have on order will be treated like my 69, driven in nice weather only and NO winters or salt EVER!!
I'm with Ghoste here it's not about saving it for the future but keeping it as nice as possible to get as much use as possible from it.
Hopefully my kids will enjoy it one day...
The amount of salt used on the roads here in the winter is insane! :o
Not too mention the fact that sooo many people forget how to drive once the white stuff comes. Just cause you can control your car doesn't mean the other folks out there can  :icon_smile_blackeye: I would hate to have some idiot smash it up cause of their poor skills

I drive a Scooby in the winter ever year and have no regrets about it. I always get where I'm going and my nice cars stay safe in the garage till spring
Nothing beats an AWD vehicle on snows in the winter!

im talking regular chargers guy NOT SRT anything...just regular folks who even have the 2.7L, 3.5L, 5.7L they are preserving them in the winter garage.......to save it long as possible they say so that in the future their charger will be worth a lot more like the old chargers they claim

Maybe im lost in this generation, but to go off old values of a old school charger vs new  :shruggy:

I'm with you , don't understand the logic in "saving" or "preserving" a basic regular Charger they are just another sedan after all and there are hundreds of thousands out there.
I have been considering trading the Scooby on a AWD Charger for more interior space. If I do it will be my new winter car. The scoobies are great cars but aren't made for people of North American size LOL I'm 6' 6" and have no room in the car.
As for a 2.7 3.5 or even a 5.7 being worth more in the future I think folks that truly believe that are really out to lunch. There are millions of them out there, they will depreciate like everything else

Thats nuts, those are just used cars right now and at best in the future they are going to be parts cars for SRT's.  When is the last time a 318 69 Charger brought 50k?

Ridiculous

I can respect someone who takes pride and care for their machine, no matter the pedigree.  There are way too many people out there with cars in shameful condition...

For some people, a $25k car is quite the investment.  And actually, these 4 dr. base model cars can be worth quite a bit, to a used car dealer.  I've seen a few mid 70's model 4 dr. sedans that some single lady had kept in a garage, driven only to church and the grocery store, command as much money as a new car today.

I made the mistake of driving my Challenger SRT in a driving rain...well actually I caught in the rainstorm and hadn't planned to drive IFR (Instrument Flight Rules, for all you non-pilots).  Unfortunately, at the time my Challenger was equipped with Goodyear F-1 Supercar tires (Factory), and I found out why they call them three-season tires.  The car wanted to change lanes every time I hit a pool of water...and without the steering wheel moving....not fun.  Great tires in dry conditions, but they are not rain tires.  I only made that mistake once....now the SUV gets all driving duties in bad weather.   Fortunately, really bad days are few and far between here in Arizona.

i dont have a crystal ball or anything and im sure people back in the 60s and 70s said the same thing im going to say but ill say it anyway, i just cant see in 30 or 40 years car guys getting all juiced up because the old guy a couple houses down the road has a 2010 charger in the garage regardless of either it having the v6 or the hemi. idk i just think those days are gone unless your talking about higher end cars, vipers , either hellcat models, or something along those lines. i do however fully support keeping youre car in the garage over the winter if you have the means, no matter what it is.

I would never do that ! Oh wait , I'm guilty !!!LOL. New 13 R/T parked right next to my 2000 Durango R/T .I am orig owner of both , I just like to keep what I buy/own as nice as possible.I very well know they will both be nothing of a valuable collectible.

What regular Charger cost 50k? People spend 90k on a Corvette and don't see alot of those in the winter?  Also unless you are used to driving in the snow with rear drive you can wreck your car and others rather quickly. That might be why too.  :Twocents:

Dino

It's not just about the car, it's the owner.  I park the 69 in the garage and leave my daily out due to space restrictions.  In winter the 69 goes into storage and the daily goes back in the garage.  But I drive all my cars rain or shine and a doc I used to work with drives his brand new vette year round.  If you know how to maintain a car then there's nothing wrong with it, there's a difference between using them respectfully and beating on them.  I want to enjoy my cars, life's too short to park them.  Once I'm gone I don't care what happens to these cars, I bought them for my pleasure, not as an investment.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The funny part will be in 30-40 years people will be able to come back and read these old threads and laugh at all of us.

With that being said, if I have a choice between a reliable $2k KBB value car or a $50k KBB value car to drive in the winter... I am going with the $2k car every time.

May not be appreciating but if its his passion I cant blame him for trying to keep it in good shape.

Mine is a 2013 charger se 3.6L. I'm driving mine year round. I don't have a backup car. However when I get another motorcycle I may occasionally ride that to work but that's obviously in good weather lol. I've got a 46 mile one way commute. Hoping in the near future I might be able to work from home occasionally.
