As some of you may know, the Daytona project has been put on hold for the last few months, while I empty out my old junky tin storage shed, haul a bunch of stuff to a rented storage unit, give away a bunch of crap, throw even more stuff away, and generally prepare for the new garage that is going up in it's place.

Here's a few pictures of the old storage shed, and it's associated junk pile...and as it meets it's demise:

It's already gone.  ;)

It's being rebuilt at my friend's farm where it will continue to house junk for many years to come.

The concrete was poured two weeks ago.

This past Saturday, I raked the gravel into place for a temporary approach ramp to the overhead doors, and generally cleaned things up.

That last pic is nice. You have great looking trees. Great spot for that garage too. Can't wait to see it complete. I'm glad I had one built, it helps a lot. What's the size? 30x40

Yes.

Amish.

Really.

Beards.

Hats.

Suspenders...

The whole bit.  :2thumbs:

Cool.  Let me know if they have cell phones.  :icon_smile_wink:

Apparently, the way this works is this:

There are one or two "English" guys on the crew.

They have the cell phones, drive the trucks and communicate with the owner.

The Amish do all the other stuff, and won't be standing around chatting me up.

Thanks !

But...

Unfortunately,

It's not done yet.

They have to come back next week to put the overhead doors up.

They were put behind schedule by two hours this morning...

There was an incident.  :brickwall:

When they were making their turn to come into my subdivision, some chick in a little silver thing decided that would be a good time to try to PASS them.

The Dodge 5500 truck they were driving received a few scuff marks to the front bumper.

The little silver Hyadundiasaki or whatever it was she was driving had the entire passenger side peeled wide open like a sardine can.

Two hours later the cops were through with them and work started.

Thanks,

I really didn't want to post pictures of the people,

I thought that would be kind of weird.

Out of the five guys that were here, all but two had hats, three had beards,

and only one had suspenders.

I guess I got the "New Wave" Amish ?  :shruggy:

Access. :Twocents:

I hate having to move a car to get the lawn mower out, or to get something off the shelves at the back of the garage, or to get my Harley out...etc.

So, now...I can just open one of the smaller overhead doors and grab what I want without moving any of my cars. ;)

Now is the perfect time to paint that floor, easy cleanup, and if you don't use the chips then it makes it really easy to find all those dropped screws and things.   I wish I had done mine sooner.

I was always under the impression that the concrete had to cure a while before you sealed it. Could be wrong. :shruggy:

RallyeMike

Seal it for sure. It makes clean up easier. Definitely don't paint it if you plan on doing much cutting, welding, or heavy work.

What a great piece of advice. :2thumbs: Especially nixing the chips.  I have spent way too many hours looking for that small part that seems to disappear when it hits the floor. :eek2:
I have done my share of working under a car on grass or gravel and that stuff will suck up rather large items. I think they go where socks from the wash go.

Along this line if you have something with a large base or is hard to move than seal around the bottom so when looking for something dropped you know it's not under that big thing.

green69rt

Really, you need to follow the advice of the various companies that paint floors.   Some will say to wait 30 days, some a year.  Just think about it. ok???  not a big deal but if you want to do it a new floor is the best time but not a killer if you do it later... :Twocents:
