I inherited this 69 RT/SE 440. Low 55K miles!!!  Been in storage for 30 years!  :o  Thinking of restoring but has to be worth it and no idea where to begin. My plan:  Appraisal, order as many parts as I know, locate REPUTABLE restoration shop. Couple questions - how do I find KNOWLEDGEABLE appraiser, TRUSTWORTHY restoration shop (terrified they may sell my parts). I don't even know what color would bring greatest value (originally/currently green; would welcome recommendations).  Grateful for any advice.

Hi and welcome!

Define worth it.  If you're keeping the car to enjoy then it's worth it, if you're selling then you'll never get your investment back, not even close.

Please post pictures and fender tag info to give you a better answer.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

We can't say anything until we can see pictures of the car and develop some sort of idea of what you're dealing with...

Is there a nationwide service I can call that will recommend appraiser and restoration group in my area?

Welcome to the site and the best way to find someone is to talk to people in your area.  Where are you from?

Sounds like a seller to me.....

Probably, but I'm curious to see the condition of the car...

Another thing you might want to try is to find a local Mopar club and go to some meetings. There are probably a few knowledgeable individuals in the club that can look at your charger up close and give you an assessment of where you sit with it.

As the previous posts said, how much it is worth and how much it will cost to restore depends a lot on its present condition and pictures would help in getting a better response.  (The pictures will need to be smaller files to work, 200 kb I think.)  The cost also depends on your end goal and may depend on whether you plan on keeping the car or selling it.  Either way, if the restoration is done correctly, it will probably cost more than you will be able to get out of the car.  If it is done poorly, it will draw fire from many on here.  Not to mention, it might need to be redone later by you or someone else depending on whether the car is kept or sold.  My impression is that the folks here are pretty good at knowing what the car is worth.

I would like to know more about the car and what options it has as well as its condition (I am not in the market to buy or sell), but that is out of curiosity.  Mine was ordered by my parents and is set up the way I like it.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

If the car is original consider keeping it so.  If it is in okay shape but needs some mechanical work to get it running then it may even be able to a 'survivor' car.

Research, research, research before you start!   Even if you are intending to to a full blown restoration on it.

If it needs everything and you are going to have a shop do it all pretty much then you are going to be in to it over $80k.  If it is okay mechanically, more or less, but needs paint and typical Charger rust areas - rear window, trunk floor, quarters - and you disassemble, have them do the body/paint, and then you reassemble you'll still be in over $40k probably.
