No, I'm just not a fan of projects that require so much time and money that they'll put you in the poor house. With all the work this car needs, you'll be into it for 75 large by the time you're done. For a car that's worth 40 when completed, that's just not an economically viable project.

Sorry, but someone's got to be the (sometimes sarcastic) voice of reason around here..

six-tee-nine

OK guys you heard the man, every Charger that needs a new quarter and a set of floor pans goes to the scrap yard from now on!
Not worth restoring anymore.

Jesus..... talking about a slap in the face for every guy out here that spends every friggin night in his shop to bring one of these cars back. Most of us know that restoring one of these is money loosing operation....
You can always "try" to be a little more positive about something someone else does...

Sorry for the hijack of this thread

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I totally get the humor of the Mytur... but maybe someone new here doesn't.

The economics you state are valid, no argument here.

You might have less then $40k into it if you can do all or most of the work yourself or go the Earl Schieb route :scratchchin: :shruggy:

If the purchase price was under a grand, I agree with your statement. Unfortunately, that is not the case.    ;)

There are plenty of people who get their hands dirty who could restore this car under the sale value. It's just that they would be paying themselves about 40 cents an hour.

There are NO Mopar muscle cars that can be restored for under sale value when you just sit back and write the checks.

i have just joined the forum and am pretty dissapointed with the comments so far. It seems that there is a rather high number of Grumpy Old Men  on this one which need  to "get a life" other than passing on low class comments. Anyway I am not sure how to delete my membership in this forum but i will certainly try. Good bye  :2thumbs:

Wow, some people can't stand the heat!    ...or some friendly banter.

The discussion about value is an important one and needs to be addressed. This wouldn't  be necessary if the market didn't change.

I see two groups here with a wide field in between them. Those that are in this to make money---Good luck---and those that have a passion for chargers and will spend countless hours (enjoying it) restoring or fixing their car.

Seeing a car come back from the dead and having done it oneself is the reward. Some may be a bit anal about keeping records of parts, metal work progress, assembly etc. But I suspect that very few keep track of their time.

Consider any number of hobbies -- Wood craft--painting-- gardening--playing golf. Where is the pay off in those?

Since the most frequent question that comes up here is what's it worth I see it appropriate to give the best answer. That answer should be critical and honest. It has value to those that ask because they are not yet sure about what they are doing/the bigger piucture. If they were they would not be asking.  Being less than honest would be potentially cruel.

Is it not true that this site is to help all that have questions as well as a place to chat?

So edl0944--sorry you are disappointed with the comments so far and yes there are some grumpy old men here. They are also a slice of life which includes a variety of humor that may only be understood by spending time reading the posts. Not sure how long you have been looking in here but I suspect not long.

I agree with your comment and I have to admit I am one of those people who are "sit[ting] back and writ[ing] checks" for a restoration.  I really like the cars and that is my only alternative.  I am sure I will be out a lot money when the work is done but I will have a cool car that I have always wanted and couldn't afford when I was younger that would have taken me decades to complete on my own now as I have full time job with two kids.  I tried the friend of a friend route to save $ but after that experience all I had was a bad car and two less friends.  Finally restoring that car (67 Charger)

Not sure what the opening poster was expecting.

they cant stand the heat because they cant make any money.....if they could then they would stay.  Turbin friend is right.....you be well into the 70k plus range finally to get it back to its glory days and even then.....

OP just does not like it when he talks to people who are know something about the charger...he/she would rather talk to someone who knows very little and only sees whats on BJ, movies, etc.......

You gotta have thick skin to survive in here, I've been verbally abused a few times in here. :shruggy:

...and writing checks is perfectly fine. Everyone enjoys the hobby in their own way as they are able. The important thing is that a classic gets saved and you enjoy the process and result. The cool things about bringing a car back to life by writing checks, doing yourself, or some split thereof is that you get to personalize it and own the result, and that you saved a car, as opposed to just buying one. That is worth some kudos, because it isn't easy.  :2thumbs:

I would not pursue this particular 70 project car, but if I was looking for this particular combination of year, colors, and options I'd be pretty stoked to bring it back regardless of cost or forum opinion.
