A Joe Dirt sequel is in the works but apparently will only be available through Crackle online video streaming. Hope lots of Mopar cameos in this one too.

I just never got how he was driving around in a beat up Daytona and never got that it was an awesome car.

Don't know if you noticed but he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

It worries me though that its going straight to online.

13 years later, they should call it "Joe as old as dirt".

Lord Warlock

He knew it was an awesome car, but it was only a fallback car for the Hemi GTX convertible, the daytona was a cool car, but the Hemi was a Hemi.

I fear for mopars again a movie with classic's never end good for the star car

No one is gonna watch it because mopars wont get destroyed in it.....but if they did then increase in audience....now u guys know why mopars get destroyed.

I'd give it at least 50/50 odds that they don't even feature the raggedy Daytona again this time.

The first movie didn't treat the car as if it was valuable.  It was a cheesy-looking joke, which is how wing cars have always looked to anyone who didn't know the racing history.  The fact that a restored Daytona is worth a mint was irrelevant to their choosing it.

I don't think we know the full story of Joe's Daytona. This could have been a Clone he threw together in his back yard.  If so he's a poser, and then got the authentic Hemi car later

Like someone already said, the Daytona was a "fall back" car. He got it cheap at the impound when he couldn't afford to get the HEMI out. So even then, the guys at the impound were clueless.

...and besides, it's a movie. And in movies, just about everyone casually drives some sort of "old" (read: classic) car  - usually a 60s-70s GM convertible  - that in real life would be way too expensive for the character to buy and maintain. Suspension of disbelief, that kinda thing.

I would think that just having it appear in a movie, in any shape, but in a run down but drivable condition a person can find one hidden away in a countryside salvage lot, would be an advantage to the daytona owners, it brings the car out of the stratosphere and its racer heritage, back to where people used to think of it in the 70s. A functional driver, with a lot of potential.  Just as Joe Dirt was a goofball with a lot of potential.  The more the daytona is seen in movies, the more people are brought into the fold and thinking mopar.

Forget about Joe, just give me Brandy  :o :o :o

FWIW, David Spade is a Mopar guy so that is most likely the reason his movies have them in there somewhere.

Thanks to this thread I just watched Joe Dirt for the first time.   :yesnod: Love the Daytona and that his dad said "how exactly does a posi-trac rear end on a Plymouth work?"
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

The Daytona from the first movie was actually made from a mint Plum Crazy car.  If my memory is correct, the car was auctioned shortly after the movie came out.  <= I may be wrong, google that sh!t :P

I wonder how many of us would just drive a car like that without restoring it?  Bet I would lol...
Every great legend has it's humble beginning.

I believe there was a thread on here about this Daytona.  If not, then it is mentioned in one of the movie car threads.

Believe it originally belonged to a member here.

That's correct, they wanted a reliable car as there was only going to be one used. Nothing destroyed, all the rust was painted on. Under the hood was perfect.

I remember seeing the Joe Dirt Daytona parked all by itself at the Spring Fling before the movie came out.  I couldn't believe someone would drive it to a Mopar show with empty candy wrappers on the dash and looking so bad.....then of course the movie came out and it all made sense....  I am sure someone was watching from afar, the reaction on people's faces when they came across the Daytona...it must have been priceless!

On a side note, yes the Daytona was actually a nicely done Palm Crazy Daytona (I was thinking that it was a clone) that was Joe Dirt'ed for the movie.  If I remember the story correctly the owner said that his girl wouldn't ride in the car after they Hollywood'ed it...................

Joe Dirt 2 is filming currently in Louisiana not far from where I live...

...I just wonder, is the Daytona Charger around too? Hmm...

I just saw the official trailer. He drives a blue 1969 Roadrunner post car with a white vinyl top.  Car appears to be in very nice shape....not a typical "dirt mobile".

Does anybody have more info about the car?
