Help identifying brake booster please guys....!!

Hi guys, I'm pretty sure my brake booster has a ruptured diaphragm (OW!). I have a rock hard pedal, no brakes (brakes, but bad/manual only), and the tell-tale vacuum hiss when I apply the brakes, together with some hilarious Prius-pissing-off popping and crackling when braking...  :icon_smile_big:

Problem: I obviously want to replace the booster, but I'm not entirely sure which one it is (part # wise...). Pictures below...

Please see pics. The car was originally (before me) converted from drums/drums to discs/drums. I know the brake discs and calipers are for a '73 Charger, but I think that's a red herring in terms of master cylinder/booster.

This is, I suspect, the original spec master cylinder and booster (very thin) but I am happy with the braking when the booster is functioning correctly, so don't really want to get into changing pedals/brackets/rods etc.

Can someone help with I.D. and part # please? Car is a '69 built, '70 titled 440 four barrel four speed.

Thanks,

K9

p.s. Sorry about the state of the booster, I promise I'll detail the new stuff to look nice too.... :rotz:

I don't think that is from a charger, if you now have disc brakes, time to upgrade  dual diafram booster hemi style , extra vacuum power for brakes and brand new ,
Pirate jacks , direct bolt on , your existing master cylinder will bolt straight up to it

K9COP

Thank you. I emailed Pirate Jacks, not heard back yet.... the master cylinder has this 'KG 14 3A 71258' cast into the side of it but I can't make that match any casting/part numbers....:

Thanks,

To be honest, that master cylinder doesn't look all that familiar either.  :shruggy:

Master Cyl or the booster. Definately replaced at some point. Googlethe numbers and put them in on EBag as well ... ya never know.  :shruggy:

Ha! Great minds think alike! Thank you! I just identified the master cylinder as Dorman M71258. More or less correct fitment. I spoke to the previous owner earlier (very helpful and patient chap) who said the booster was from a 1969 Satellite....

This may get me further forward, but as it has a $30 master cylinder in it, I may just bite the bullet and swap the whole lot......

Good idea , because that looks like a drum brake one , disc brake ones are a lot deeper, brakes need the extra fluid the deeper reservoirs hold ,
Avoid dorman or cardone , been there done that  ! Junk , re manufactured and badly
Stainless steel brake company or anyone else with a good name, will bolt straight up, watch the bore size when getting your new one , make sure it's for disc brake car ,
Bench bleed it , mask it up and give it a good coat of cast grey paint, they come bare, and it will rust up in no time

Wayne Brown at theramman.com can help too.  Not cheap but he's a Mopar guy and the quality is 100%.  A lot of useful information on his website too.

:iagree:
Wayne is the best in the brake world market!  As Ghoste said his products are not cheap but he stands behind his work 100%.  I have used his services on my rides and never had any problems or complaints about his work.  When I was installing my master cylinder on my charger I had a simple question for him.  This was at 8pm and I left a message in his voicemail.  Five minutes later he called back and answered my questions.  You pay but you will receive quality service and products!

Wayne is a true Mopar nut he will talk to you for hours it seems about mopar brakes/cars.  He especially loves 69 GTX's.

There's also Booster Dewey, he rebuilds or sells outright.  :2thumbs:
