Been working on refinishing my dash bezels for my '68. So far i've finished the surrounding gauge bezel, the radio and the 2 small side pieces. Unfortunately the other section that goes above the glove box was completely ruined and not usable, appears that some one tried to use some type of solvent that did not agree with the plastic and most of the pattern is gone. I'm working on trying to find that piece as we speak. Anyway, i stripped several layers of really poorly done paint using a combination of brake fluid and Easy Off over cleaner, seemed to work pretty good but took several applications and a lot of elbow grease to get the junk paint off!! Then once thoroughly clean i used Krylon Plastic Fusion Satin Black sprayed directly on the parts, you must let if fully dry and "bond" with the plastic for at least a week but the results are pretty nice! I then hand painted the bezel trim edges with some bright silver enamal and few different fine brushes and a wide brush for the outer trim edge. Is it factory correct? Well no of'course, but i'm pretty happy and satisfied with the results! Here's a few before and after pics, keep in mund i have NOT done anything with the gauge cluster itself, still have to send the cluster out for refurbishing.

Good job!   :2thumbs:

The dimmer switch section should be black as well though, only the raised part is chrome, or silver in this case.

Rebuilding the gauges is pretty easy in case you want to tackle it yourself.

Moparman01

Thanks ya'll!!

Fy496rtse, that's was my thought exactly!! I thought long and hard about spending the money and buying new pieces but really this type of detail work I truely enjoy doing so I figured save the cash and try to make the bezels look like new!

Dino, yup I know the dimmer wheel area should be black, I did it in silver on purpose to see how it would look and ended up liking it!!
