Hi from what i have experience the steering in the chargers is a bit sloppy,do they make a quicker ratio steering box that will give you a better feel, or maybe something i am not aware of that would work.

I used a company called Firm Feel.

I sent my steering box to them to rebuild it and upgrade the ratio internally.  They offer several different choices for steering ratio increases.  Extremely pleased with the results and quality.

Wow that was quick, anyone know if one from a different car works? Its  shame because the guy i bought the car from just changed it before i bought it . Matter of fact i had to finish putting the column end in he didn't have it in enough.

Yep, put a Firm Feel in my 67. I wasn't a fan at first but after driving my 73 with a regular, it is a huge difference.
I also met these folks at Carlisle but have yet to speak with anyone who has used their products.
It's supposed to be the same type box as FF. http://www.steerandgear.com

There is a steering chuck that was stock on some police cars that is like a firm feel stage 2, or so I've been told.  I was going to buy one from a member but lost his contact info and now I can't afford one.   :icon_smile_blackeye:

i just installed the quick ratio pitman and idler arms , you need extra room to headers though , good to check before you buy,
this reduces turning effort to wheel roughly about a third

Boxing up my power steering unit now for Stage 2 modification by Firm Feel. Shipping fees from Miami to Washington State are going to be ugly!  :eek2:

Do you want the steering to naturally try to return itself on-center when you let go of the wheel (while rolling)?

For that, no amount of tightening anything is involved.  You need the front wheel alignment changed to add more caster.  It can be done easier/more than stock if you use offset UCA bushings or get aftermarket UCAs with the balljoint moved back a bit.

What type of issue with the header dose it have? and is a small block/ big block issue?

I had sloppy steering also even after replacing the steering components in my 68. I tried adjusting out the box slop with the backlash adjustment and it did not help. I sent the box to firmfeel for the stage 2 and could not be happier with the new box. It was not cheap but worth every penny now that my car steers so much better and has a better road feel as well just the right amount of assist.  The "rebuilt" auto parts store boxes are junk. You get what you pay for. I put one in my last charger and it was worse than the one I took out and leaked.

Steer-n-Gear user here, in two cars. Very happy with their boxes. Picked them up at Carlisle, no to/from shipping & gave them a core so there were no core charges.
They may go to other swap meets as well, you might want to check with them. You can save a bunch that way. I'd imagine shipping charges would be cheaper for you as well, they are in OH.

Can't say, never used Firm Feel.
However, it's really the same concept. They offer rebuilt boxes in 3 levels of firmness. I think their core/shipping charges are a little better as well, at least is was at the time several years back.
Firm Feel has a little more going for them with the other products they offer (control arms, sway bars, etc).
So far both my SnG boxes have been good. I like the level of firmness as well (Stage 2).

I could drive to Ohio, only a few hours.  Does the stage 2 come close to a modern car feel?  With the titanic wheel that is?

I have a Stage 2 in a car with a woodgrain wheel. Definitely firmer than stock. I am happy with the feel of it.  :yesnod:

Excellent!  That's one thing that still is way off on my car, no road feel whatsoever.  Thanks Bill.
