NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Shame, maybe.  He seemed like a genuine lifer for classic Chargers so selling isn't something he'd be too willing to share.

Honestly if I ever decided to sell I wouldn't tell you guys either; it would be too difficult to have to explain the particulars of why I'm selling and then have to try and sleep at night with everyone's posts echoing in my mind...

Not sure I understand.  You've got a nice '68 and I don't see anyone tearing it apart.  To do so would be like saying a man wouldn't bonk Kate Upton because her boobs are too fat or something else nitpicky...

Okay, now the question is....did the buyer get the current engine, or the stock numbers matching (non-rebuilt) engine and trans for that price?   :shruggy:   Its unusual to see an auction where you have to pay extra for the engine/trans that's currently sitting in the engine bay.

According to the auction description, the modified 440 and 727 transmission do not convey with the sale.  Unless the buyer ponies up and pays more, the original un-rebuilt motor and transmission go back in at no charge.

1974dodgecharger

Alot of people do it...its like ransom.....but hey its his car right.  :icon_smile_big:

TUFCAT

The whole engine swap thing makes it more confusing, but in the end new buyer gets original matching drivetrain regardless (which is good). Its up to the new buyer to negotiate a price to buy the current drivetrain.

It seems strange not to sell both engines with the car.  If I had any intention of keeping the modified drivetrain the original stuff would be put back in, and the car would be ready to rumble.   :coolgleamA:

Not strange at all....smart actually  :yesnod: The majority of mapar guys are too focused on numbers matching this and that so the sad reality is that all the extra cash building a killer street combo gets lost in the process. I don't blame Mark for protecting his investment in the modified drivetrain one bit. Why give away a $10K plus engine and trans combination for free ? The average mopar enthusiast is not all that concerned with real performance and more pre-occupied with pedigree. Give them what they want and if they really want the extra's have them pay for it.  ;)

Maybe Mark has plans for the engine & trans in another project ?  :scratchchin:

X2.  I can see people with big dollars into their (non-numbers) engines getting tired of purists turning their noses up.  So why cast pearls before swine?

TUFCAT

Don't mis-understand I totally get it.  :yesnod:  If I had any intention of using that killer motor and trans combo for a future project #1 -it wouldn't be let go for cheap, and #2 - I'd have a hard time parting with it.

My comment is based on most buyers wanting a numbers matching car (notice I said most :icon_smile_wink:).  That alone could be enough motivation to put the original stuff back between the fenders.

I'm not trying to be an armchair quarterback. Being this car is so beautiful to begin with, any potential owner should be excited about having the "best of both worlds" (with two engines).  Personally, I'd like to buy the car "as-is" and keep the numbers matching stuff tucked away for safe keeping.

I also acknowledge the point that some buyers might not recognize the value of the modified bullet, or reach into their wallet and pay for it.

Well said clarification.  :2thumbs:  I always try to put myself in the buyers seat when looking at cars like this. This car is so complete as it is that the temptation to move on is high unless it's just what I was looking for.  That it's a  combination that could be put back to original is a negative to one that is looking for originality. (extra work) I think that to offer it as a combination will be a tough sell. It's looking for a few in a narrow market.
The seller is in a place that many get into when they make their cars just like they want them and hope to find someone of like thinking when comes time to sell.
We either want to make them to our vision or as they were made by dodge. :Twocents:

I wonder if he's ever going to post in here about it....
