Gap from edge of deck lid to dutchman panel - 68 Charger

Ok, I mounted the deck lid onto the car yesterday and was trying to get all of the gaps equal, side to side is perfect, the edge of the deck lid closest to the rear of the car meets up perfectly with the quarter panel extensions (the boomerang looking ones).  So in other words, from what I can see, the front/back adjustment is perfect as the "spoiler" area of the deck lid sits flush with the quarter panel extensions.   

With that edge perfect, the gap between the front of the deck lid and dutchman panel looks a bit on the wide side, I didnt measure it nor take pics but its been bothering me. I can send pics toinite, but just curious if anyone else can chime in about this gap. Is it supposed to be the same width as the side to side gaps (deck lid to quarter) or the doors, hood to fender, etc?

The dutchman panel trailing edge to leading edge of the trunk on just about any 2nd gen Charger is "cavernous" ...you have 2 choices, either weld a 3/16" rod to the front leading edge of the trunklid and metal work it in, and/or using masking tape as a guideline to expose the intended removal area, mask off how much you dare remove from the leading edges (the edge that mates with the rear of the rear qtr) of the end caps using a flap wheel mounted on a hand grinder, this will allow you to push the trunk forward some, even an 1/8" is a gain, just watch your side gaps on the trunk lid as you move it forward

Unfortunately they were a bit lenient on tolerances back then.  As Dayclona mentioned it is best to add material, I would add it to the dutchman edge itself but you really need to get the trunk lid lined up as best as you can on three sides and the fourth will be the edge you rework.  Welding is best but if all you need is 1/8" or less then you can try metal filler.

Or try another lid.  You may find the gap becomes too small.

Thanks guys, I just may have to live with it, Im too far along now for that kind of modification unfortunately, was looking at it last night, i may be able to gain a tiny bit more with further adjustment. It really blew my mind as I didnt touch the dutchman panel and it was the same lid so I was stumped as to why it had a bigger gap, good to know its a known issue.
