We have rust piles, barn finds, survivors, etc. We also have restored to factory correct (and beyond) resto mods. clones etc.

Is it just me or is their a lack of nice clean drivers for sale?  Maybe it's true that we have and enjoy our drivers and that's why their rare on the market.

Question--as a new buyer would you prefer something to chew on---a project--- or would you like to just drive and maintain one as it was back in the day?

one with nice body so I can install the  engine of my choice. you know, one mostly done but not enough so I can personalize it.

most of our year cars out there are either piles or restored...you don't find too many "drivers" out there for sale anymore....

Dino

Since I have a driver my next one would have to be a resto project to have fun with (in really bad shape please), but I'd still want a driver first to enjoy.

You're right, there aren't too many drivers out there.

I just sold my driver 73 Cuda and the dude is completely stoked to have something he can enjoy and drive without the worry of a restored car.
The Charger, for lack of a better term, is freshened up but by no means restored. Basically a very nice driver.
The Challenger will be basically the same deal.

There is something to be said about being able to enjoy these cars without all the damn worry or dings and chips and such.......

My black Charger, a driver, needs paint to be decent again

The cream Charger, a driver..all original except interior, has dings and scrapes...I'm not afraid to drive it anywhere

the Pontiac is a 60,000 mile original car...all original except the convertible top....kinda scared to take this one out anymore...

so I drive my Dakota truck or the Shadow...

By all means restore them , but don't over do it, so that your afraid to take it out and enjoy your hard work,
Dino your what you call it ( driver ) its better than you think it is , its come along nicely,
It's a charger what ever the condition it's in , how many people have one of these to drive  ?
Wish I had mine in your condition and drive it as I work on it
Your threads one of my favourites , because its used driven  :2thumbs:

prefer driver to a show car less stressful and you can enjoy it a lot more. I assembled my basket case 70 charger to a driver with a new paint job. Now it sort of looks like a survivor with a few interior parts missing.

Thanks fy!

It is a good driver, or will be again when the bugs are worked out, and it is fun to work on it without having to take it off the road for too long.  I'm glad I invested the time in the past year to work on it, electrical wise she is now just about perfect.  Your time will come.   :yesnod:

got lucky when I found my Satellite as far as condition and price.  The previous owner was using it as daily driver/kid transport (found a crayon or two and a box of Goldfish crackers while cleaning out)Had a few things it needed here and there which ive been taking care of one a a time as money/time allows, but I've been cruising since the day I got it and will until the motor blows up. Not a big fan of the el cheapo white paint job it has, but im already looking into doing something about that...

At 40+ years of age, most of the daily driver types are rust buckets, even if that rust is hidden.

Does being a clean car with bondo count?

There's no shortage of any kind of car.  Just higher prices than before.

Mike, in another thread I believe you said that today's $5000 project was 20 years ago $1500 beater. To actually get a driver under $15k these days means you doing pretty good

Chad L. Magee

The problem with finding a good driving Charger project is that others are looking for the same darn thing.  They don't want to pay for a restoration, but they also do not want to pay for a restored one either.  So, they go after the ones that are still presentable, just not show quality if they become available.  That is the cheapest way to still have fun with the older musclecars.  Funny how times changed.  Used to be that these conditioned cars were basically just "used" cars that few wanted to have.  Twenty years ago, I was with a friend who bought a 1969 Charger WHS out of a KS junkyard for a few hundred dollars.  (I then bought it from him for a few hundred dollars more a year later.  He was happy as he made a profit off of me.  Even told me that "a fool and his money"....)  It had a rusted rear floor, missing original 383-4bbl. engine (had a running 400 in its place) and had 1970 bucket seats instead of the 1969 ones.  Back then, it was considered a parts car by many due to the trunk floor rust damage (hard to get repo parts for it back then) and the MIA 383-4bbl.  Nowdays, it would be considered a likely candidate for a driver if the now-missing trunk floor was repaired with a repopped one.  But, it will sit  there until it has it's turn to be restored....

Got enough projects and life is too short to spend it polishing a trailer queen. Not that I don't appreciate a pristine car, they just are not for me.

Thanks tan top.  That's a good example of a decent driver.
I wonder how many looking at that car see it as a driver that can be enjoyed and fix things as they go along.
Or is it more like a starting point to be made into what someone has a vision for.
It most likely will end up behind someone's line of projects to fill a dream of what they really want. Such as color/trim/drive train. etc. :shruggy:

Maybe the reason we hear little about drivers is that their is not much to say about them.  The projects have lots to speak of and a finished car has lots to talk about cause it's not really finished as is pointed out all the time.

Hahahaha...u guys crack me up.... :smilielol:

There's alot to talk about on driver cars.....people r constantly talking how i raped my own car.  Cant even sell this fcked because people tell me my rims are too big.....

So I want a driver.

It's about the experience - past and present - of driving.

With the 69 I had without knowing it I made it about the experience of  building the car, then owning the car as  I ended up with a show car that I thought needed to be maintained more than driven.

I ran across this video a while back, about a 67 Polara.  The guy loves and appreciates his car.  It exemplifies the feeling I want when I drive my next Charger.  I don't want to show off or be seen, I just want the experience of it.

Just curious, does anyone know what that white '68 Charger pictured above sold for?
