Man it had a hole in the diarpham and gushed out the top vent hole.  Now the decision waits for sure electric or mechanical. This mechanical lasted me 10k miles....daily driven till she breaks down and up again she goes.

Which pump do you have on the car ?

The Carter 120 gph street pump rated at 6 psi is my favorite. Mancini has the exclusive rights to sell those now and they appear to be currently out of stock.  :P

If by chance you have this one on your engine there are rebuild kits available  :2thumbs:

If you're looking for a quiet & reliable electric pump the Mallory 110 would be my first choice  :yesnod:

Is there a reason you need such a high performance pump?
I don't see the point but if so, fine.  But here is an option:
OE - NAPA NFP M6935 $22.50

Good question....one reason was for the adjustable inlet and outlet ports and my builder suggested for 500hp engine.

Could I go cheaper?

72 parts book shows 400/440 and this number. Not sure what the difference is
Part Number: NFP M6191 this one is 29.99
70-71 book shows Part Number: NFP M4845 28.35
Don't know the difference but I would guess it's the placement of the inlet/outlet.
When you say adjustable in/out I assume you mean the position if the spicket.  Not that it is larger.
Again, I'm sure someone out there will know better than me, but I'd bet mechanically, it is no different than the 440 ones I listed. Just find the in/out that works best.
Again just more options.  :scratchchin:

Note, if the pics on the NAPA site are correct (and they not always are) the spickets point in different directions on all these.

I have had a Canadian regular stock replacement fuel pump ( can't recall the brand ) in the last 10 years or so, being daily driving without a problem. Why simply don't get a stock replacement ?
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

everyone thinks bigger is better in the fuel department....  :shruggy:

you probably got a bad part...the next stock pump will outlast the car probably

Like Ron said I like the carter 6903 fuel pump. Mine went bad a few years back and I bought a new one from mancini and decided since I had a hard time finding a new one I purchased another one to put up for extra. A great fuel pump that has the perfect pressure and high flow. Have had the new one on my car for about two years now with no problems.

having a electric pump does it idle better in the cold mornings?  I have to rev my car at 1500 for at least freaking 3 to 5 mins until my temp reaches 140 then wait again for 3 more mins until temps reach 160 before I can drive off and not let it backfire in the cold.  I mean cold as in 40 degrees here in AZ.....I tried many times to drive off when temps reached 130 to 150 and car wanted to stall out and backfire.....

Ghoste

Thats about the engine being cold, it doesn't care how the fuel is delivered.  If its there and the engine is cold its going to be rough running.

Honestly I would stick with a stock style mechanical pump (that's more than adequate) unless you have a "need" for an electrical one, and that need is just a matter of preference...

1974dodgecharger

thx there myk I know you run one....

guess I will deal with it then in the cold, lol...

One benefit from an electric pump, is when you turn on the key it's priming the fuel system. So, that way you don't have to crank the engine to get the mech pump to operate .

I do like that feature; I don't have to pump the gas pedal after long periods of sitting or anything like that; as soon as the ignition goes live the pump starts filling the bowls and the car starts right up...

I'm gonna go for a electric setup i have a return line setup....

Do i put a filter after the pump?

I sent holley a question about their  oil pressure guage electric pump setup where the relay gets a signal from oil pressure and turns on.

Does this defeat the purpose of filling the bowls up before starting?

the oil pressure style shuts the pump off in case of accident. That way pump is not running with key on and engine dead for fear of pumping fuel out for a fire. All fuel injected systems are built this way. If computer does not see a RPM signal from engine, fuel pump will not run

1974dodgecharger

I guess I got a choice....lol.  seems both pumps can fail and catch fire.   Some folks were telling me I got lucky that my engine didn't catch in fire when my mechanical failed through the weep hole and splattered gas all over the place.

Thx for everyone help.....

Hmmm....I never considered the safety aspect of an e-pump.  In the end though, these cars will never be as safe as their modern successors; operating them will always come with a level of risk. As long as your wiring and plumbing are solid you should be good...
