Electric Dodge Charger??

What would you all think if Dodge changed the direction of the Charger and went back to the Charger's roots with a stylish upscale 2-door performance oriented vehicle, but all electric with a high-torque motor?

I think it might not sound the same as a V8, but there doesn't seem like much better name for an electric vehicle than a Charger, don't you think?
"This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold..." -- Numbers 7:84 KJV

I can see that as coming soon and getting accepted.  When I was just starting to drive-- the crowd I was with talked about electric as being the future.
However 45 years later to me is that future and It hasn't happened --yet--

I'm ready and interested to see what direction hot-rodding takes next but a change to electric will be different enough that I see the two seldom playing together.

Going fast in a car from the fun point of view is much more than distance and time.

Suppose side stepping a couple of laws of physics were to become possible.  How much fun would it be to end up at the end of the 1/4 mile before you left. One may as well do it from home and argue with one another about whether it even happened.

I'm still a bit skeptical on the electric cars taking over, they have a lot of issues to overcome yet.  (barring the Obamunists mandating them into existence of course)

Obama is already trying to ban the hellcat engine and for offroad use only....saids all that power will kill pedestrians.

just rumor..............

HANDM

I was telling my son just the other day that sometime in the future, someone will invent a bolt on four wheel electric motor conversion.......

Have to keep the engine and tranny in place for looks only and mayhap fire it up for those that don't remember or never heard what an internal combustion engine sounds like.

Where is Ralph Nader when the proletariat needs him?  :smilielol:

I could very well respect a 2nd Gen looking electric car with Tesla like performance; those Teslas are no joke and can run circles around many contemporary performance cars.  HOWEVER....

Driving a classic Dodge Charger is a highly visceral, emotional experience.  It is the sort of car that isn't just driven, it's also seen, felt and definitely heard-a highly sensory experience.  To take away the deep bellow of a winding big block as it tries to launch you into tomorrow cheapens, lessens the experience of driving a classic muscular machine like a 2nd Gen Charger.  I'll pass on the fancy electrics and keep the soul alive in the drive...

Ghoste

Keep the soul in the drive.  I like that Myk, think I just may steal it. ;)

Lol, with all you've contributed to the board I probably owe you the shirt off of my back.  Well, if you can wear a men's medium, anyway...

To not take anything away from the classic Chargers, perhaps it could be called the "Re-Charger"  :scratchchin:

I think the Charger fills a niche as it is, so I would not expect it any time too soon.

All you have to say is "Obama is trying to ban (insert popular item here)" and the rumor will get traction.

If its something that people enjoy but do gooders hate there is a good chance there is some truth to it.

I don't fear the "Obamunists" mandating what they do. In fact that will be the fastest way to show the fallacy of their efforts.
Just look at the wind turbine fiasco. They dot the landscape, they fail before they pay for themselves. They are of no use when the wind doesn't blow. And the energy required to make them what they are today far exceeds them catching up to a zero benefit.
Making electricity is well understood but when we don't even do the simple math (or we do but ignore it) we are left with huge boondoggles.
Making a viable electric car to replace what inhabits the roads today is just plain over the top without --fundamental-- changes in the way we generate power. :Twocents:

The only math most politicians do however is calculating how many votes they can get by listening to which lobby group.  Sadly no one looks at power generation, power distribution, or power storage.  They only see green is good and carbon is bad.
