Saw this pop up in my local CL a few days ago.  I actually live in Hartford county, this car isn't that far from me.

Not a bad price if it's all original as stated.  I'd have to crawl underneath it to be sure though.  For anyone into factory resto with matching #'s this is a great project.

Ok, first off... why does it have to be green.  

Manual power brakes, no AC and the not so common rocker moldings .     It looks to have factory cruse control.

It looks like its rusty..  the interior pic, look below the hinge point, where it starts to curve down into the drivers sill. Looks like rust through. This car is probably going to need a lot of AMD.

The lack of title is probably effecting the selling price here...

I'm not sure if a getting a replacement title is an easy, or monumental task these days?  

I'm guessing the buyer will have substantial red tape to deal with getting a title depending on the state.  Other than that, it looks like a nice numbers matching original car with documentation to boot... I've seen lesser cars sell for more than $15K.  

By the way - I like the green!

not that it means anything (except that the seller is pretty much lying about always wanting to restore the car) but that car was on CL about a month ago for 10k. I posted about it in Bens dream car thread. I talked with the owner who bought it from his neighbor who was moving and the wife said it had to go, he said I was 8th online to buy it and I assumed he sold it to one of the 1st people to go see it.

That thing looks terrible in the eBay ad.  The rear quarters aren't just rust, but missing!


As far as title goes, here in CT we don't need a title to register a car as old as a Charger.  In fact all we need to do is tow the vehicle on a flat bed to a DMV outlet and have the vin inspected and verified and a bill of sale, pretty simple for this state.  I understand some states can be hell without a title though.

I don't even think CT issues titles for anything that hasn't had one in the past.  I had to get a title copy of my Neon here before I sold it recently and the process was very easy and fast.  Not sure if I went to the DMV looking for my Charger's title would I have such an easy time even that it was last registered in this state as far as I know.

Neat car. Some desirable options (console, wood grain steering wheel, tach, rocker moldings, cruise!) but missing some common ones (A/C, 3-speed wipers, passenger outside mirror).  A decent grill certainly helps the value! The color and lack of title will limit the number of buyers. In my opinion, it looks like it needs a lot of metal work for $15k. The pictures are kinda sucky but those front floor pans don't look stock so I'd definitely thoroughly inspect the frame rails.

It's just as the other poster said about CT.  In fact any car over 15yrs old in NH they dump the title requirement.  They will not issue or recognize it.  You buy it by signing the title, they don't care, where is the bill of sale? You take it to a shop and the local police and they say, yup it has a VIN and it's not in the stolen database, its yours.

So the title, in NH anyway, is just another piece of history documentation.

Absolutely! It sounded in the ad as if they didn't require titles at one time but have since changed the law? States that require titles are aware of what other states use and can't/don't require a title for a car coming from a non-title state. They will create one when the ownership comes to their state. There may be other rules so it's best to check with the local DMV (or the state's main office) before dragging home a car without a title. So, maybe it won't be terrible but that doesn't mean it will be hassle free. I do believe some sort of title has to exist to send it out of the country though.

I have, unfortunately, spent a ton of time and money sorting out title/ownership history in the past. At this point I pretty much have the owner show up at the DMV and if they reject his paperwork I don't pay for the car.

Like Troy said each state is different. Some requiring more documentation than others.  A person needs to do research beforehand, the information is available your states DMV online....

Well in some extremely rare cases you could be talking about the manufacturer's certificate of origin for import/export.  To date I don't know a soul who actually has one but I have heard that some people in the U.S. do possess one for their cars!

I know that Mass is pretty restrictive compared to Connecticut when it comes to registration.  I live 2 miles from the MA border so I hear the complaints about how they have to have full inspections and any rust, non-working parts, or even minor damage is a fail.  No experience with MA reg myself however...

Correct!  Do you research prior to purchase.  Learn, know, and understand your state laws.  Knowledge is power and can save you some money.

Absolutely do your own research and not on-line.  Take trip to, or call, your local DMV.  When you get an answer go to another DMV and ask the question again.

Not only is there a state-to-state difference, there's a big difference between obtaining a title you lost vs. a title for a car you purchased in-state vs purchased out of state.

In Ohio there is NOTHING subjective.  If you can't provide specific required documentation you have a parts car.

That car, and its color, make it less desirable than other R/Ts, but isn't a terrible price. Sure, it seems like it was just bought for less, and is being flipped, but that's life.

In case anyone is reading, in NH there is a distinction between a classic/old car and a Hotrod. Different plates and everything.
