My 6.1 Hemi install into a 70 Plymouth

SRT-440

Putting a 6.1 with a 727 auto, Borguson Power Steering box, FAST XFI 2.0.
Did a test fit today and installed the steering box and cut the steering shaft to length. Next week I should have the rebuilt Trans, tti headers, turbo action converter for final install.

Looks good, Those TTI headers are real nice I have a set on my 5.7 and I ran a hotwireauto.com harness sent the pcm to them and they took the Security and EGR function out. I ran the Milodon pan as well.

I hope the headers will bolt up to my 3" TTI exhaust without much hassle.
My next problem will be figuring out the divorced charging system since the Fast XFI doesn't handle that stuff.

do you mean alternator charging?  I have an '04 5.7 in one of my cars and I run the alternator off of a '70 and up voltage regulator.

Yea, I've got a '70 regulator in there now but don't know how to make it work...if u could shed some light on it I'd greatly appreciate it!
Bouchillon sells a "kit" that comes with a regulator, alternator plug, wiring...but it's a $130...if I could make my 70 factory stuff work with the new alt that would be great!

When I get my Trans from the rebuilder and the headers I'll get more detailed pics. So far, it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be...dealing with the charging system and wiring harness/ECU's will be my biggest hurdles just cuz it's all new to me.

This is the harness I am running on my 5.7 Hemi, nice thing is if I ever upgrade to a 6.1 or bigger I can send the harness back and they will mod it and the PCM.

Yea, my cars paint is not great..so I'm gonna have the engine bay repainted "in-violet" and then later the rest of the car will be redone. Right now, it's a 10 footer.  :D

There's nothing wrong with a 10 footer ;) .  You can drive it anywhere, and not worry about that spec of dust, or few drops of rain, or driving through what once was a puddle.  That colour rocks BTW  :2thumbs: .   I'm going to be doing a similar conversion with my Charger, can't wait to see it installed and running.  Biggest question; is there a cheap way to make it fit?  Or am I stuck dropping big bucks for the pieces I'd need?

Honestly, the cheapest way to go is with a 5.7...they are much cheaper than a 6.1/6.4. To me, the cheapest and easiest route was using a 727, but you won't have the OD which would be nice. You can save a lot of money buy running truck exhaust manifolds or stepping up to the SRT which can be had for a couple hundred dollars.
Really, the little stuff is what adds up fast...I had to replace a lot on my 6.1 like the alternator, crank pulley, water pump because it came from up north and the salt ruined everything. So, if you can locate a southern donor car get all the parts u need from it.
If I had it to do again, I'd run a Holley Dominator EFI...it runs around $1500 and will be true plug n play and let you use a drive-by-wire setup...my FAST 2.0 uses a cable operated throttle body and is expensive.

I also will be running AC so making the stock hemi compressor fit meant cutting some of the k frame...but if u don't run ac then the install will be a lot easier. You could prolly do a 5.7 swap for around 4-5K or less if you get everything u need from the donor car...if you want to go aftermarket and up the HP some then it will go thru the roof depending on how much power u want.

Most ppl don't see spending this much for the swap, that's why there is less mopars running around with a modern setup...the GM guys been doing it for years and it's super cheap for them...they can put an LS1 in anything for 2K.

Bouchillon pretty much has everything you'll ever need...and so will Street and Performance...also Hotwireauto...believe it or not I've gotten a lot from Napa..LOL.

I just ordered my TTI long tube headers...with shipping it was $830...still not sure which torque convertor to get but it will prolly be $500...I'm upgrading my fuel system with a in-tank pump and a kit with lines and regulator and it runs $500...   and then all the wiring process begins.

Btw, I had a TR-6060 6spd I was going to use, but too much chopping of the floor pan was required and there isn't a lot of aftermarket support for the 6spd into a b body so I went the easy way out.

I got a steal on my 5.7 paid $1000.00 for the complete motor,trans,wiring harness,PCM, and the engine only has 3000 miles on it. I did not believe it until the guy I bought it from gave me the receipt from the yard he bought it at (he had paid $3500.00) I called them and they verified the mileage. I think I am going to pull it apart and put forged rods in it along with a cam change.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

That was a awesome deal! Did u see the magazine that took a junkyard 5.7 and put it on a engine stand to see how much boost it could take before breaking? After 60 pulls it made 1100 hp and was still running...these motor are tuff.
A 6.4 cam makes a 5.7 come alive.
I just wanted around 350-400 hp to the wheels and I should be right in the middle with my setup.

I'm shooting for 600HP N/A, so we'll see how it goes...  Rough estimates is putting the build at close to 8K on the engine  :shruggy:

I'm ok with hacking the floor for my 6spd.  Fortunately I've got an extremely clean 318 shell to play with.

What are you planning to use as a computer? The Holley or even the FAST would give u a lot more tuneablity.

Cool. U still gonna run the coils? FAST makes a system to work with the carb setup...it just controls spark..its FAST XIM.

Will definitely look into it.  Have the complete stock block from an 06 Ram to start with.  Will be looking everything over and weighing my options this winter.

IMO putting a carb on a 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi is like taking a step back. Nothing beats fuel injection  :Twocents:

Picking up 727 from rebuilder this weekend, ordered TTI headers, Torque Converter, "divorced" charging system...should be all installed by next week...then the only thing left will be the fuel system and electric fans.

I have the XV intake, a Summit 750VS, the MSD 6HEMI box and wiring that's coming off of the car late winter/early spring to go EFI.  I bought it all new so I'm not 100% as far as what to ask. 

I'm also converting from truck to car accessories so I'll have all of those off of the car, too.

exactly....     the MSIII will handle everything for the Gen3 Hemi -  I am thinking of ditching my factory PCM and going that route as a stand alone for boost later on.
