How to reattach taillight trim

How does someone go about reattaching the trim around the tail lights?

A lot of us use clear silicon adhesive.

Apply 8 or so small dabs of adhesive around the
trim. The number of glue points is more important
large drops of adhesive. Hold everything together
with blue painters tape and you're done.

Must be '69 thing?           I don't remember using any adhesive to attach anything around the taillights.
