What is this small round tag with a number for?

That's a K frame "coin", attached (welded) to ID it's application/year of production

Here are some of the numbers.... Your #79 would be '70 B-Body - 440 with skid plate.

9th number up from the bottom.... 1970  B    440   w/skid    

This number is also on the 1970 build sheet, 4th line under "Frame".

There are also date codes found not too far away from that coin.

Are the 1st coins possibly a "no skid" coin.
