well, my attempt to seal a leaking O ring on the rear shaft didn't work.  I cleaned it good and let it sit for over a week and the damn thing still leaks.

so what does it take to replace it?  I've never played around with a tranny - is it something that I can do or do I take it in to be fixed?

here's a pic - thanks for the advice!

just got and solved that problem ( not by myself ). I had a GIANT leak there. You need to remove the tranny tail to get room to pull out the shaft, beside the oil pan and valve body of course, to release the reverse band. After that you will be able to remove that shaft and change the O ring.

I filled anyway the Shaft/hole with gray silicon after assemblied anyway just in case ( gray silicon sticks to much better to all around than the red one )

NO more leaks... beside the inner speedo gear seal, what just leaks oftenly, nothing to worry, because is easy to fix

P.S.: I can't remember some tailhousing section over that shaft on my tranny ( mine is 727 also ). Maybe that is the REAL reason to remove the tail ?... I didn't fix mine.
