I was trying to get a larger size u joint rear end yoke on my 742 case 8 3/4

I got the nut off....removed the washers but the yoke was not coming out.

Can I get some instruction here about removal technique and reinstall of new rear end yoke?
(Looked at other posts about crush sleeves etc.)

 :slap:
Can I take it off with a gear puller?
Read 742 cases use shims and not a crush sleeve and could tighten new one on?
Feeling a little stupid here ...never done this.

Have you got a gear puller or such , once it breaks loose it will fall off, gentle tapping with rubber or wooden mallet
Shims used in installed height when pinion installed,
Course spine teeth to 742 's ,
Once front nut torqued up to spec, you will need an inch pound torque wrench for pinion load,
Refer to factory manual, need to get this part right , install a new pinion seal as well

Thanks for the information....really made me stop worrying

If it was a brand new seal .... can I reuse it?

I did not realize the smaller yoke size when I had rear end rebuilt. (All new ring/pinion/sure grip)

742 has no crush sleeve, use a dead blow or rubber hammer to knock the yoke off and install the new one and torque the nut. if the old yoke does not have any grooves or wear then you can reuse the seal, they are only a few dollars though, wouldnt hurt to replace anyway for peace of mind.
