That sort of negates the "not expensive" part of the request. ;)

Do you have a manual transmission now? Assuming you have an 833 now I'd just get it rebuilt. I had the 18 spline from my Challenger rebuilt at Brewers and it cost $1,100 (mostly parts since some of my gears were "hammered"). Their labor is something like $250. I recently picked up a rebuilt 23 spline OD from Passon that they had on sale for another car. One of the shift rods is slightly different but, otherwise, it bolts right in. It can't handle a lot of power but I drive on the highway most of the time and never take that car to the track.

Passon does make aluminum case parts for all the original Mopar 833 internals. I think it adds another $700 or so to the total. They also make an 18 spline OD gearset which installs in place of the original internal. Top of the line is their 18 spline 5 speed OD (complete transmission) but it's a bit over $4,000. If you are replacing and existing 23 spline you'll at least need a new clutch disc but everything else is the same.

If swapping from an automatic there really aren't many economical options. You need a lot of parts and the transmission is only one of them. Flywheels and clutches aren't cheap. Neither is the factory bell housing and pedal assembly.

If you want something newer/better/lighter than the original stuff you can buy one of the various T5 swap "kits". It won't be cheap as most of those are going to run about $5k and not much of the original equipment can be reused. You could piece together something with mostly used components (think Mustang) to save a little money. This is easier if you have a small block as there's a readily available after market bell housing.

There are other options but all require a lot of money and fabrication (Richmond, T56, etc.).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
