I'm no expert, but isn't that a pretty strong price for a bench-seat, column-shift car?  I must say - I love the colour.  It does say it's numbers-matching, so I suppose that helps out a fair bit.

That's 110 plus commissions. Pretty strong money but everything at BJ is way overpriced.  It's where non car people go to buy collector cars as investments.

I go every year......yes there are some "TV Time" people showing off in front of their trophy wives - but I would say most people there are car people

The market has been heading back up.   If you want to know what a decent Superbird in a common color and equipment combo is worth today, now you know.

I looked at this car at Gateway Classic cars in Tinley Park, IL about two months ago...it has some issues that would not be inexpensive to correct.  They were asking $170k for it at the time  :icon_smile_shock:

It went across the block at $110,000 and I guess the seller paid 10% so the the guy got a check for 99k. BJ has a good thing going I believe.

how many of these cars are re-stamps to suggest they are numbers matching. I find it interesting that so many engines survived the early years of fun and abuse. During a normal inspection who is going to crawl under the car to inspect the numbers on the block. Without a lift you can't do it unless you are as skinny as a broom. I am also a GM muscle guy and the real concern with big block cars are too many re-stamps hence most are looking for the true untouched original. I would like to get everyone's opinion on what a non-numbers matching Superbird would go for.  $5, 10K less ??

I have seen an LS6 pulled out of a barn one time and it sure looked the part of an un-touched original with 20 years of dust. It was later in the middle of a rotisserie resto when the machinist called and said their numbers matching 512 block was a 2 bolt main. OOPS!!! I have seen so many fake GM cars I don't trust many to be real. I have a friend with an L78 he bought when he came home from Vietnam. That car is real!

I have attended BJ many times and have sold there twice and the guy I worked for bought over 100 cars there. He got more than his share of clones rebodies for 6 figure money. Most people at BJ are total car people. The bidders on the other hand are "enthusiasts" who love their cars but know very little about the cars they are buying. That would explain the 100k 440 challenger at Scottsdale this year. Oh and by the way. Anyone notice the right quarter? It has the quarter panel disease. The product of poor panel replacement (namely the quarter, trunk floor, and extension. The cars you see that look so nice on tv are really 20 footers. I would not use BJ as the litmus. Mecum is more accurate IMHO although there is plenty of auction fever there too. Oh and btw the seller pays 8% and buyer pays 10% with the seller paying 700-1500 entry fee just to get it in the door. So the buyer paid 120k and the seller received a check (1 month from now) for 101,200 but after entry at roughly 1k and transportation and the trip to attend he probably netted 97k and change.
