Legendary interior frustrations

I ordered a complete interior for my General Lee mid July and was told it would be a 4 week lead time which I am totally cool with.

We all know the quality of Legendary- they make good stuff so I'm not going to address that here.

I called ahead to check availability of a 69 Charger interior with Rallye seats in saddle and was told it would deliver in 4 weeks after the order was placed and paid for in full. A local shop I deal with was considering signing up as a vendor so I and another guy committed our complete interiors to help get him started. I went through their catalog and got all of my part #'s together to place my order. Only thing I asked was no buttons on the seats as I have heard they just don't last.

I don't remember the total and don't really want to- it was a lot, about double what PUI would have been. But- mopar guys want legendary interior and the quality of the two GTO interiors I did with legendary is second to none.

Scheduled some days off work end of August so I could get all of this done. The goal is a car show in November and I still have a lot of work ahead of me. So End of August gets here- no interior. We call to check the status and are told they are waiting on arm rests. Shoot- those are easy! Send me everything else so I can get to work!

Shows up the next week with random pieces- upper door pads, no lower panels, no seat covers, no foam, etc, etc. we call and they don't understand what happened and they say they will fix it as soon as possible. Explanation is that the new Rallye seats are treated as custom and take additional time. I don't agree but I'm okay with it.  Just get me my stuff.

After a week they say the order will deliver complete by 9/17. My door panels came in but no seat covers or foam. Pissed off at this point because the car really isn't drive able and has been in pieces for an extra few weeks. I have been ordering parts like crazy so I decide to go inventory everything. I am all excited to see these amazing upper door pads I saw at the Legendary booth at Mopar Nationals. They were packed awesome- no way they would get damaged. But then it happened.... No clips on any of the door pads.

Now for any of you that have looked- these are $1000 for the upper pads alone. $1000 plus shipping. I call them and let them know that I am already upset about my order and am hoping that they just forgot the clips and can send some out the next day. Nope- you have to buy the clips separately. If you buy the COMPLETE KIT that comes with window felts, medallion, etc you still have to place an additional order for the clips to put them on. I don't like that- if your going to sell a complete kit lets make it complete with all of the items you sell needed to install it.

I would have even been okay (not happy but okay) if the sales guy asked if I needed the stupid clips to put them on- nope. So now I am about 8 weeks from the date of order and have to go back and order stupid clips to put the few pieces I have on. Door panels- clips not included. Visors? The part that clips to the rear view mirror is not included- you can buy it at an additional cost.

No one wants to pay extra- but I am definitely willing to pay for quality. What I am not willing to do is over pay for quality and get crappy service.

So to recap- I paid the going rate for their product and was given an acceptable lead time. Order was entered into their system on 8/25. Most of the product didn't come in, they say they will fix. A week later I am told the balance will deliver in another week. Call today to ask about clips and find out that not only do I not have my materials- they aren't even made yet. So let's say at least two weeks for them to get them to TX? That puts me into October best case scenario. Then I have a couple weekends to get this thing together. Ordered in July- hoping for October delivery.

I have been working on this car day and night for a year to meet my target date and because Legendary either dropped the ball or is taking care of their bigger vendors first (this is my third interior from them and I have more cars to build) it will be extremely close if at all possible.

I know this won't keep anyone from buying from them and that is not my intent. My intent is to let everyone know that if they are going to buy from these guys they need to allow 90 days for delivery.

myk

And therein is the problem, I think: vendors know they can count on their bigger supporters to take care of their income, so why bother with the smaller buyers.  Also, it's not as if we as buyers have many options to choose from when buying things of this nature.  In a lot of cases we have no choice but to accept what we're given, for better or for worse.  I hope you get your car sorted out....

Good Lord !! $1000.00 for the upper door pads ! Crazy !   I really do not remember the vendor I bought my complete interior from at the moment. (too lazy to find the receipt)  But everything was delivered within a couple of weeks and looks great! It definitely was not legendary. "Leave the buttons off" could have caused a disruption, I don't know but, what do you mean by "Rallye" seats? are you referring to bucket seats? New foam and covers were delivered to me quickly!

Sorry for your frustration and I hope Legendary makes it up to you but, I won't hold my breath!  I have heard many times their customer service and shipping sucks!

Here is a quick picture of mine !

Yep, ordered a headliner from legendary and said it would be three weeks. Called Year One and they said it they could do better. It's been three months and they said it will be another two weeks. Said green headliners are not in demand. I guess nobody restores green anymore.

That's a really sweet show!!

Thanks green69rt .   The outside of the charger always gets some "drooling" grins but the interior almost knocks them off their feet!   When white interior is new/spotless it is a stunning look!

myk

I would be afraid to even "sit" in your car-that beautiful white interior is too perfect to touch...

charge69

Thanks to you too, MYK !! You have a beautiful Charger also! I do drive it and also give rides in it but, please be careful about getting in and out of the Charger !  Ha ! As much as I have heard about the buttons on the seat covers, I try to be careful to not "slide" across the seat and ask passengers to do the same.

It looks better in pictures than it looks in person but, still pretty darn good looking ! When I push on the "loud pedal" people forget all about how nice the interior is and just look for a place to hang on as they get all big-eyed !  Ha !

myk

Do you have to clean your interior often?  I wipe my seats and interior down but I never see much of a difference lol...

charge69

Not really.  I gave it a good going-over with vinyl protectant and treatment on just about all surfaces, including the vinyl top, but the dash (did put it on the dash pads, though) when it was first finished with the install and now just spot clean it every so often and give it a complete rub down every few months.

Obviously, it is garaged the time I am not driving it with windows up to minimize dust inside but, no cover for it yet!  It is very humid down here in the Houston Tx. area and I think even breathable covers would trap a little moisture. I just wipe it down with a very soft microfiber cloth and go over it with a California duster weekly and it looks "show-ready" most all the time!  I've only waxed it once in the last year and it still looks freshly waxed!  That's a tribute to Turtle Wax ICE product. I highly recommend it!  No Scratches, no swirls ....... just easy on and easy off!

Now, I apologize to the OP for hijacking the thread a little.  Didn't mean to.

RallyeMike

I bought my first set of Legendary seat covers about 1994 and half the button covers had popped off by 1995. I might be over that in about 20 more years and may try them again

It's really sad that they won't do the buttons the way the originals were.

1965gp

Thanks for letting me vent guys- I know I am relatively new to the board.

Like I said- I don't mind paying a premium for quality which they offer (except for the buttons) but at least make me feel appreciated.

Not much I can do except return everything and start over with PUI- I figured the best I can do it let other potential buyers know what they are in for. This sucks because I do like their products better than their competition but not enough to be treated like an afterthought.

Seriously- I expect a lead time but when I dramatically over pay for something and they don't include $1.50 worth of clips it pisses me off.

Hell- I even set them up with a new distributor that sells a ton of PUI- I would hope that would get me on time delivery!

1965gp

Well, to their defense Legendary called this morning. I talked to the guy that took the order from my distributor and he admitted that he expected the distributor to know that clips were not included. Better yet- they do not reproduce the upper door pad clips so I need to figure something out.

Apparently the hold up is that I asked for the rallye seat covers without buttons. That is custom and needs a sign off from the customer. I told them the only reason I didn't want them was their bad rep for them falling off! They apparently e-mailed the shop and the shop took a few days to get back to them. Still- first order I would have expected them to call the distributor and not just sit on it.

Long story short I am supposed to have my stuff by next Friday- hopefully that gives me enough time to get the brakes fixed and get it to the interior shop to install the headliner before the Houston Autorama.

I do understnad your frustrations.  These so called turnaround windows, backorder, etc..  I do feel your pain and sorry to hear about it holding up your process.  Not with Legendary but I had the similar wait times and excuses with other vendors.  It is sad it is just the nature of business and the economy today.  Thus, the customer has to feel the pain.

Where are you at in TX's my friend?  I am in the North Dallas area.  Those clips you need amongst other part you may need, I have them.  PM me anytime through here, with anything or help you may need.

What did he say when you mentioned the buttons falling off?

charge69

I'd like to know what, if anything, they said about the button issue also.

I live in the Spring area and will try to make id down to the Houston Autorama this year to see your car also.

P.S.  Hmmmmm, "No buttons is a custom order and it is holding you up".   Now, why would I have guessed that?

1965gp

Well don't build it up too much! it's just a driver that my buddy painted and wanted to use to help promote his business catering to driver quality classics. We are planning on putting it and my wife's Bandit TA (which he also painted) in together. All of my rides are driver quality but each one seems to get better than the last so I am moving in the right direction.

Heres a pic of the TA and GTO last year:

74- I am just north of Houston in Spring and will hit you up on the clips. The last pieces I need (for now) are those clips and parking light/ turn signal housings.

Hoping to get out there this afternoon and get some work done- storming now so not a good time to paint the interior pieces and still waiting on everything else. Got a few trim pieces I can put on.

He didn't say anything about the buttons- just that he knew they had a problem.

Didn't realize anyone besides family mopar was from around here (very cool guy by the way).

Mike DC

Legendary has not fixed that button problem for literally 20 years now.  Its not worth trying to fight with them about it.

Brock Lee

We used Legendary for Lee1's interior. Lost a button the first time the drivers seat was sat in. We did another set for another car and requested no buttons installed and they did it. I have a set of Legendary covers from the very early 90's and every button is missing. Just a metal stump.

I have PUI's in my Charger. They are the first run. The buttons came in a baggie so it was up to you if you wanted to use them. I opted not to. I am still happy with my PUI seat covers. I was worried at first as the material felt lighter, softer, more stretchy, but they still look good 9 years later.

moparnation74

Familymopar is a quality mopar friend by far!

I have those housings as well

Buttons  :brickwall:  don't get me started  :RantExplode:

I remember the thread on the interior page about this, and coincidentally I just recieved new legendary seats for front and rear last week for my black rallye.

Oddly, with my grey rallye,  I didn't have any button issues and quickly assumed maybe it was the fact I didn't drive it as often as some of the other members with the issue (still possible I suppose)

So, I called to make an appointment (local guy) to have the covers installed and asked the owner about the issue.  He was well aware of the buttons and told me that if you bring seats in with good buttons (meaning the original buttons) he always uses these buttons over the legendary buttons.

This might be why I still have all of my buttons since '10.   :shruggy:  Obviously he wouldn't be able to recall if he applied this to my seats 4 years ago, but I appreciated the fact that he had a solution for it, and told him to use the current buttons from the seats I plan to drop off again.

Charge69, I'm holding off on ordering a complete white interior myself - comparing overall quality, pricing and shipping fees. Could you further elaborate on who provided/distributed your order and 'ballpark' costs? So not to pollute the OP's thread, please send PM.

Thanks.
