Hey everyone. What's  a good running ,'73 motorhome 440 and transmission with 70,000 miles worth? I have a chance to buy one from a neighbor. Will be putting it in a power wagon if the price is right.

good running, ?
the value is always with the buyers intent, me dont need anything more than just the block these days,
but if you intend to install with all bolt ons , easily 750 to 1000

Transmission is useless as it has the bolt on driveshaft most likely. The engine is worth what you are willing to pay. I would treat it as a core.

Wrong. Tansmission is perfectly usable. Only difference is tailshaft. Swap the tailshaft, yank the tailhousing install the tranfer case adapter and you're good. Just curious as what would be a good price is all.

There is more to it than a tail shaft swap. :Twocents:

I bought a 74 motor home, 440/727. The 727 was a direct fit into my 1974 Charger. No modifications. Depends on manufactuer.

I would love to see pictures of this simple 5 minute tailhousing swap. When you have a motorhome 727 with the park brake drum on it, you MUST do a total dissasembly and swap the main shaft. The brake is part of the shaft.

I agree, but what do I know.

I've seen them here for $400 to $450, but without trans.

But it isn't going into a Charger, its heading for a Power Wagon, which may already have the short transmission, so no change out may be required at all.

Where I'm at, $300-500 for a builder, engine only, depending on what comes with it. A runner in stock condition maybe up to $750.

Who said it only took 5 minutes? I know you have to change the shaft. Like I said, I've  done it several times.
