Hey gang...

Going off the beaten path here that someone may have gone down this road. I just got this car but don't have the lug nut key for this lock nut........... I'm running out of ideas on how to get the bloody thing off....... Any suggestions?

I haven't been able to find this particular set of lug nut locks online....

I have never done this BUT, I know a few fellows that have.
Take a deep socket that you don't care about, rusty/junk/what ever and pound the sucker on the lug.
They have told me it works.
1 on each wheel?  Ecch, you'll need to do it 4 times?
May want to look into something like a special socket ... I know I 'd hate to for a one time only.  Maybe Harbor Freight would have something.
I'm sure someone will come up with another answer.
Not sure if this is even close.

Have you talked with a used car dealer?  They routinely swap aftermarket wheels for factory ones, or vice versa.  They may have the correct socket for removal.

Just found this at O'Reilly's where I'll be going later on to get some bushings........

Yep, that was my thought. HAte to spend money on something you'll use once (well 4x) then put away.   :brickwall:

Troy,

That lug looks familiar to me.  I just called home and sent my wife out to the garage to take a pic of a lug key that I have.  I will post pics when she sends them to me.  If it looks like it will work, I am happy to bring it to your house after work.  If you are in a super hurry you are welcome to go get it from her.  Pics to come soon...

I know at discount they have a bunch of keys. My gas saver has locking lug nuts too and when I took it there to get new tires I told they kid the key is in the glove box and he said he "don't need it, we have the key, trust me." You could drive it up there and have them match it and tell you where to get one. Mine for my charger looks the same as your too. Maybe familymopar has the one you need.

Ok, among the slew of wildly inappropriate photos I just received were these.  I think it will work for you.  I also have a spare set of non locking lugs if you need them.  Check out the pics and tell me if you want me to bring it over.  Heck, i may skip out of work a little early!

Zoomed in and lightened it up so you could see the grooves.  Let me know if you need it.

Troy, you just gave me what I needed a "valid" excuse to leave the office.  I'm leaving now but am coming from downtown.  I'll give you a ring when I am up north.  I am pretty sure I can beat 5:30.

Chuck, tell your wife her sparkly nails look nice!  :D

Each locking lug has its own key, so the odds that the one you have will fit is one in (the number of individual keys they make).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

no, they don't..all those lugs are the same and use the same key as shown above

Hah!  Done.  Then she rolled her eyes and told me to have fun on the patio with my imaginary friends.

Well I don't know.  My key did not work.  Seemed to be the right pattern but my lugs are considerably smaller.  I showed my guy at Discount the lugs and he said they were Gorilla lugs and wished me good luck.  But he loaned me a locking lug removal socket and they are off now.

I will say the lugs did not appear to be "one offs" where you would need THE key that came with them.  Even though that is what the Discount fellow told me.  I don't buy that.  But I did not have the right key so they came off the way they had to.

That was the alternative.  I think the removal socket worked a bit better for biting in though.  In any event, Troy got them off and that was the goal.

Not to her!  Which is ironic considering I am pretty sure she is inside watching the "real" housewives of some place or another.

there are 2 different sizes of lugs & socket key.....a small and a large, both have the same rifled pattern on the lugs, just different diameters

familymopar

Then I definitely have the small one and Troy definitely needed the large one.  From what I am hearing there is also a 6 groove and a 7 groove.  Mine is a 6, Troy's was a 7.
