Everyone pointed out reasons why the Coronet wasn't worth the asking price so I am no longer interested. Moparnation is for some reason upset that I am not buying his friends 68 which I have my own reasons for, mainly it is too far away. So now, I am curious to know if you all think it is worth 35K. (see 2nd page) I would say contact Moparnation if interested.

Hello All,

I realize it's not a charger but wanted to post here to see if the experts have some insight into what it is worth. (I just joined a coronet forum but am waiting on access) I obviously prefer the Charger but it's getting hard to find them at a reasonable price, if you have one or know of one for sale let me know. I prefer 69 but also like 68, prefer an RT, 4 speed, would like something that doesn't need too much work and is ready to drive. 30K is about the most I want to spend.

The ad info and pics for the Coronet are below. These are the factors that might affect the value: NOM, is 440 6 pack which was not an option on the 69 RT coronet, Lemon Twist Yellow was not an available color in 69, non original wheels.

I wouldn't be ashamed to drive that. If it's documentmented matching #s probably 40k high

E86/A47

Thanks cncguy! The motor is not original. Any thoughts on how that will effect the value? Asking price is $36,500 but i've negotiated a lower price which I will reveal if I purchase to respect the seller.

Cncguy

I would say about a $5000 deduction depending on how close the replacement block is. For example if it's a factory replacement. The value would pobably not be effected. Ideally he would replace with a 69 date coded 440 hp from a Coronet. To keep car as close to factory.

Troy

Being realistic...

NOM and incorrect color/Six Pack. At this point the purists have stopped looking so you don't really need to care how these things negatively affect value. Mind boggling that it has all the documentation (including the build sheet) and looks like a "restored" car BUT was still built a different way. Hard to say in this case if the yellow hurt the value over the original F8 green. Also hard to say if keeping the original theme - only part way - hurts or helps. Probably helps a bit just because it's an R/T.

Head rests aren't "rare" in 1969 - they were federally mandated at that point.

At this point the quality of the work is worth more than originality. It looks like a nice car! "Show car" quality (if that's what you're looking for) is hard to come by - and expensive! Nicely done cars can bring in good money even if the pedigree isn't there.

For myself, I prefer "driver" quality non-original cars because I love to drive. It would be hard for me to want to take out a numbers matching, concourse restored car for a 100 mile cruise on the back roads in the summer. A decent base model car with some modern upgrades fits the bill - and the cost is much lower. It's somewhat embarrassing to take to shows though. So what do you want?

The most important thing is that it isn't a Charger. I personally like Coronets but they don't have the fan base nor do they command the same prices. Do you really want to spend your max budget on something that isn't exactly what you want? Could you be happy with a lesser (build quality) car if it said "Charger" on the side? I like the car. I also have a garage full of Chargers so buying it wouldn't hurt my chances of owning what I really wanted. If I had zero Chargers I would probably say "nice car" and move on.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Hey, since its somewhat on topic, What is a fair price/cost for a 69 coronet 2 dr hardtop, 318, minor rust, unrestored, runs, drives etc.. i don't have one, nor know of one, but i would like to get one as a daily  :yesnod:

E86/A47

Thanks Troy! Wanna sell me one of your Chargers?  :icon_smile_big:

Are you saying that you think the car looks like a show car quality or that one is hard to come by, i.e. this looks nice but is not show? I would like something I can drive and even though this one may not be show quality, it may be too costly for me to feel comfortable driving it with out worrying non-stop about it getting banged up, scratched or worse.

moparnation74

Nice looking Coronet!  I agree with Troy,  I too am a fan of Coronets but the values unfortunately do not follow.

That is a nice looking car. :2thumbs:
Interesting to read comments about values of the coronet vs the charger.  It makes sense that a charger forum would have charger fans.

When I was getting imprinted with what a good car looks like I had a friend who's parents just got a 69 coronet 500 (white with green int.) We were able to play with it in a way his parents would not approve. :icon_smile_wink:  I was impressed and soon bought a 69 superbee 4sp.  During this time I was looking to move to a charger because of it's body style but the coronet grew on me and I guess cemented whatever it is about our first cars that does this.

Ten tears later I found my hemi coronet and a few years later my C500.  Forward to today I am looking for space in my garage and the C500 is the one that will go first :shruggy:

So what I wonder is if my friends parents had bought a charger instead of a coronet would I have been moved to buy a charger?  And further would I now be looking to kick the hemi coronet to the curb and keep the C500? :slap:

I love 69 Coronet R/T's and looked over all the pictures etc...
I see a higher end driver, certainly a car that's going to get oohs and aahs from people but could never be considered a real contender at a Real Mopar Judged event. The color change to an unavailable color is the first hurt and then non matching engine or engine and trans???
Added 6 pack is fun but never available along with the old school wheels.
It's a fun driver so spend accordingly, my opinion is 25-28K.
Hard to tell in those pictures but get better pictures of the front of the fenders to see if they filled in the seam by the grill area. My guess is that the front of those fenders are made of plastic, just look at the width and shape of them. Also has 68 style DODGE letters on trunk. What other body panels are original???

Ron, Beautiful Coronet!  That bird sitting beside it looks SWEET!  ANy chance on posting pics of that beauty!

I was thinking 28K would be my top $$ but his bottom line is more.

I added more pics including a fender tag that looks like it's brand new, does that seem off? https://www.flickr.com/photos/pawz4reflection/

Can you show me a pic of the area you are talking about? Plus more pics of your Coronet, looks awesome!

I would think that fender tag looks too good also.
I posted two pictures showing the proper shape of the front fenders and the seam that meets the filler piece on the bottom edge of the hood.
Compare my pictures to his and and you'll see what I'm saying.

The Bird you speak of was my 72 Satellite Sebring Plus. When I bought it back for the 5th time in my life a previous owner cloned it into a GTX. :2thumbs:

Sorry I've hijacked this thread into the story of my life!!!

Chris we have a new memory maker!!!!

Challenger340

Beautiful Coronet R/T.
My guess is $28 to $30K.
It should be more by the apparent high quality of the work performed, irrespective of the non-matching color/engine etc., ?   but unfortunately the popularity of the Coronet Rattle Traps, just ain't the same as their Charger brethren.
Only wimps wear Bowties !

Thanks everyone. I'm leaning towards passing on this car due to comments here and at the coronet forum. If anyone wants the sellers contact info, let me know.

Can we have 2 "Help ME find my dream car" threads?  ;D

Fender tag is a bad remake.
Wrong shifter knob.
Heater hoses routed wrong. (pet peeve)
N96 hood added. Car codes for standard hood.

Troy, headrests were mandatory on 1/1/69. This car was built before that so they were optional.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Thanks again! I've been a member here for years but figured I'd better post over at the Coronet forum. Possible rust issues are what scares me most about this car.

Yeah, I know. I was referring specifically to them being "rare" for a 1969 Coronet (not this car since I hadn't seen the pictures yet). I suppose "rare prior to 1/1/69" would have been accurate.
