I am going to put a 727 in my car, should I get a used one and rebuild or go with a new unit? If new any recommendations?

Hmmm never heard of them

John_Kunkel

A "new" 727? Where would you find one?

When it comes to rebuilt, it's generally cheaper if you supply the core but most rebuilders can supply the core at a higher price.
I'd recommend John Cope.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

comet_666

What about finding a older unit and having it rebuilt? Would that be cheaper?

myk

Like John says, it's cheaper to supply the core and have it built.  You can have the builder come up with the core but it will cost you...

comet_666

Makes sense. I am new to the auto thing on this car, any thing I should look for in a core like specific year or anything else?

Mopar Nut

Most core charges are only $300 and with free shipping.

I might be able to pick up a BB 727 transmission out of a 71 cuda locally for $200. What should I look for when I see it?

comet_666

Are there different types of 727's other than BB and SB applications? I'm sorry I am not that educated on the auto but I will do a full rebuild just need to know if if there is anything in particular to look for when I go to check this trans out.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!!

Dino

The intro here will tell you all you need to know to figure out what trans it is:  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,61361.0.html    Are you far from Detroit?  I see them on CL here a lot.  There's one for $200 and there's a bunch of 440/727 combo's.  One for $400.   :2thumbs:

I am from upstate NY, actually found one on CL for $200 about 15 min from my house. it's a 727 that was mated to a 440. Are they all the same from say 68 to 78?

A&A just outside of Indianapolis rebuilt my 727 and it feels amazing. They did top notch work and super nice guys. I'm very pleased and will use them again. They also sell parts. They have an online store.
