I've been narrowing down a starting problem.
Car turns over but does not start from key start position. It cranks and as soon as you let go of key it backfires.
It will start perfectly by jumping the poles on the relay.

Long story short I'm changing the ignition switch but I'm stumped at this point in the picture.

This may help:

I think the next part of the column casing just pulls towards you now, assuming that circlip in the picture is from the centre of the column as it stands in the picture.

I'd rather push a Charger than drive a Mustang.. which is lucky..

Ok all I needed was some 8/32 5 inch machine screws to use my wheel puller.

I changed to key cylinder and the car is still not starting at the column.
Now I need to change the ignition wire harness but I'm once again stuck at this point. The FSM says to remove this sleeve but I do not have the tool of that. Anyone know if I can simply put this style puller on?

to remove the sleeve just need to pry it out from bottom against the lock wheek and done... is REALLY EASY. One small screwdriver will do the job.

then you'll find the pin through what keeps the locking wheel into the shaft. You'll never remove the locking wheel if don't remove the pin hidden by the sleeve. This sleeve is on there just to be sure the pin won't came out accidentally.

You were right, it was easy!
Finally got down to testing the ignition harness. All was well. It ends up my problem was in the engine bay. Run blue wire had come loose from its harness under the electric tape. I put shrink wrap over it to hold it in place and buried it in some more shrink wrap.
Car starts perfectly now.

Thanks for all the help,
