Hood pins

I know some guys dont like them, but I'm adding them to my 69

Now, they are available as kinda Multi purpose and therefor the cable length varies from say 22" up to 25".
Anyone here who has hood pins care to tell me what set they bought or better what cable lengt did you get?

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

You can get them from the typical vendors like Herb's, Dante's and MegaParts.  I don't know the lengths off the top of my head, but different model cars and even different year Chargers used certain lengths.  There will be a specific length for a 69 Charger.  The vendors probably know.

Speaking to the original owner of this car originally coded with the J45 Hood Pins, he stated the originals measured 18" in length.  The car is being restored now & he said he went with the 22" ones due to the fact that the 18" would rub the paint off the hood.

Thx for the replies,

I did looked a MegaParts' website, but they dont specify a length for a Charger in particular. Most of the descriptions stick to "some B body's"
I know you can Always modify the cables but I'd rather buy the right ones the first time.

As time goed by pictures will come in my resto thread....but I like to drill the holes and do the fitting stuff before paint.

I did get a set for my '73 from ebay seller demonized666, price was competitive and they look nice but I have not installed them yet. I have seen positive comments about his stuff on forums, however. (edit; btw, they had same looking paper envelope marked with "S" as in the dalescudashop link!)



As the hole on the bezels is only a little larger than the pins, I guess I am fine drilling the hood for same diameter, or is there a reason it should be as large as an inch?

Personally I don't use the cables, they always rubbed the paint flappin in the wind up there.

My first 70 Charger had the Factory hoodpins.  As my then g'friend totaled
it & I had not let it go before buying my current 70 Charger, I transplanted
them, along with every missing screw etc onto the new one.  What I did to
get the holes drilled properly into the hood may be of interest.  After adding
the pins in the correct location I lowered the hood slowly until it rested on
the pins.  Then I lifted the hood 2" & dropped it. I repeated that from 2"
higher with each successive drop until there was a noticeable dimple on both
sides!  Perfect center for drilling the holes!!  The reason for a 1" hole is easy: 
the hood raises in an arc - but the pins are straight.

I have never understood why standard procedure is to fasten the pin cables to the car rather than the hood itself.  There's no need to have 2-foot cables flying around just to keep the pins from getting lost.  If the pins come out then the hood is still gonna fly up either way.

I don't run the cables either. But it was nice getting rid of that head-bonking latch assembly... Check out some of other high-quality vendors' pins like Hotchkis,RingBros, or the new ones from Mopar!

I'm only guessing but could the cables (as the pins of course) just be there to emulate actual race vehicles?  In which case the cables are there for pit side part removal to ensure the pin doesn't get lost and stays with the car not the part.

 About the latch: I have no intention of removing the factory latch.
I like to add the pins for just the looks.

I bought three sets of these since I needed 3 hood pins and 2 trunk pins
good price and I got them in just two days.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

They look like any other hood pins I have ever had on any Charger, granted they are not factory correct but the pin style was what was ran on a Daytona race car.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Keep in mind, those are the inexpensive flat aluminum bezels that sit flush on the hood. Water gets under and the often rust.
The better ones are a little more but have a gasket like this:

Most of the racers we run with dont use cables. They either run zeus fasteners or the snap lock hood pins.

If that's really all you are after then why drill holes in your hood?  You could just make a set of hood pins into "dummys" glued to the hood skin on top.  


In fact, does someone already sell dummy hood pins?  It seems like something that might exist.
