Oh wow, I usually type those out and then delete them.

Well, I guess you can have it.

Ha!  I thought it was just me.

You and the dirty turbin got it right.  Your crap is just crap to everyone else.  Any any expectations otherwise is just ego.

Aside from guns and some homemade "creations" (dad was a depression kid) everything of value from my father is in my memory.   It will be gone when I am.

Forget your "legacy" that's ego too.  Once your friends and children are gone your just a name on a piece of granit.

And forget about providing for your grand children.  In most cases whatever windfall they receive will be taken for granted.

There will always be some families or family members that are interested in, or regard history and lineage with importance.  They are the exceptions.

Non of this is Debbie Downer stuff.  It's the way it's always been.   Our egos just cloud it.

Interesting read....   :scratchchin:

I have gone through a lot of this recently and yes it's all about how we see the items. I try to highlight to my children a few small items that are important to me, and our family (or so I think) and let the kids go from there hoping that they will apply the same sentiment to some of the things in our life and our family's history too. I have put a ton of my life into my house and continue to do so. I hope that my kids might want to live here and at least give it another generation of our family's use but the value of it continues to rise and I don't see how a young family would be able to afford it. So here I sit wondering how long it will be before I sell it and move to something smaller on the water for the wife with a big garage for me.

I don't know that I would say that for everyone it's all about the money but I can say that it's nice to receive that as well. I received a decent inheritance from my grandparents and much of that came from the sale of their items. I cherish that I was able to use that to help with the life I give to my kids. Is that wrong? Not sure one way or the other. The money gives me the ability to enjoy life in ways that owning a house outside of NYC or keeping certain items wouldn't give me. I have a Charger thanks to them. I enjoy it every day and it reminds me of them. I impress this on my kids hoping that they will be grateful and mindful that we exist on the shoulders of those before us.

This is getting way too logical for me.  It is a time honored tradition to bash the younger generations and I do my best to carry it on...... :nana:
