Steering column trim

Can anyone tell me how the trim goes on the lower steering column?  I'm talking about the plastic cylinder that fits over the crush part of the column.  It is split down the side so you can wrap it around the column but I'm not sure how it is secured.

Dangit I never got an email about this message and forgot to check, sorry about that!

So that's all it is?  It's just taped?  Not as high tech as I would have hoped but okay, that'll work!   :icon_smile_big:

Really?  It would make a nice addition on others as it completely covers the column cage from carpet to solid column trim.  I like it.   :yesnod:

Got mine on ebay for a few bucks and I've seen others.

'68s are bare naked!

Dino

And there's nothing wrong with that!  I found the sleeve by accident, I forget what I was looking for.  If it wasn't so cheap I wouldn't have bothered.

mine  never had one of these Sleeve / cover things  either  !!

while  looking around to buy one , started seeing column change cars with  these only  :scratchchin:  &  none ! for  floor shift cars  :shruggy:  just my casual observation , not seen enough ,  of unrestored cars or other wise   to know for sure ,  so decided I did not need one  :shruggy:  :P  :popcrn:

I didn't even know these sleeves existed until I saw one on ebay.  For the price I figured why not

I doubt my car came with it as well but I like it, it makes the column look a bit better although you'd have to get down to look for it.   :icon_smile_big:

Ghoste

Now we need to determine how many years it covered.  I want to say my 67 had it but I'm not sure.

HeavyFuel

 :scratchchin:    Interesting.

Seems like a hit and miss thing?  Logic would suggest that for most unrestored cars, the columns wouldn't have ever come out of the car.  Is that a fair statement?  If so, I would suspect that the way the column was (with or without sleeve) when alot of us got our cars, was the way it came off the floor.  I can't think of a reason to remove them.

Although not technically a survivor, my car was remarkably "un-dicked with", as far as the interior was concerned.

Dino

I agree with your reasoning but keep in mind these things are flimsy and attached with tape.  It does not take much to take them off.  Also if you would have to replace the turn signal switch or do something else close to the column, the first thing to do would be to remove the sleeve.   So then the question becomes, how many were never put back on?

Evidently, I was the first to take mine off when I replaced the turn signal switch in my '69, just a couple of years ago.

As I see it clearly on another 1970 Charger parts books: the Jacket (metal) #19-14-1 is the whole outer tubing from steering wheel to the floor plate.
The Cover (plastic thingy) #19-14-28 is the thing that covers the crush section of the Jacket.
