This isn't really a question but a rant.  This is my first black car and when its detailed to the nuts I absolutely love it but it shows everything and I can't get it ever to the level of perfection I want.
Someone needs to invent a special one step black wax that leaves them perfect, just wipe it on and go drive.

Black.....30 minutes of satisfaction after 3-4 hrs. of labor.  At least it looks great for that 30 minutes

    always used  use 3m 05990 Hand glaze , by hand ! , after machine polishing black cars at work !!  then use  your favourite wax

It was brought to my attention of a product from Lucas Oil that done a good job of detailing a black Mercedes SL 500.  I Forget the name of the product.  I was too busy admiring a black Mercedes SL 500

Just to mention it, the guy that had the black Mercedes SL 500   let me touch the surface that he had treated with the Lucas Oil wax, I didn't leave a finger print.  The surface was real slick.  I might get some to play with on the daily.

Thats interesting.  I can detail this wonder of mine and then lean over to get a speck of dust off the hood and leave a huge sweat stain on the fender and I'm wearing a shirt and I'm positive I didn't even touch the fender it's just the added humidity coming off my beer belly.

I get polish glaze or polish wax.  But how does the glaze enhance the finished wax job?  Swirl marks?

My recommendation:

1.  Step back.

2.  Say to yourself "I have a fucking badass black 2nd-gen Dodge Charger!  Who the hell cares if the paint needs detailing in spots nobody else even notices?"

for new paint just out the booth , there are  modern products now , that supposedly save time & make it easier , trizac system & similar  with Da-ing the paint , which is debatable & true they do have their uses in a collision shop get Em ! in get Em out ! but its down operator doing the job .    but for anything decent in single stage black,  reds dark blues , Greens .........

how I & all the older paint guys , who know their stuff ( that's not meant to sound how it sounds ) ,   do any decent car with single stage black paint  ,  if its fresh paint out the booth ,  after denibbing , color sanding etc or what ever it needs ,  with a electric polisher (mop) use the appropriate  sponge pad either flat or a waffle type & for favourite compound either  farecla liquid G3 or the 3M fast cut equivalent ,  once  completed , use 3m machine glaze with a air powered polisher (mop)  low pressure  & a big double sided lambs wool pad .  then  use hand glaze ! put it on with one cloth let it dry a little , ie put it on one panel , then take it off with another cloth  , hoods / roofs etc do half then take it off etc , once done , next wax in your favourite way !
that's a new paint job ,   remember the end finish is only as good as the guy who is doing the job ,  

old paint ,  that's has  had few polish  ups with compound over the years , could have heavy swirls in it ,  maybe  who ever machine polished the paint in the past  , did not use enough water with the compound & or pressed too hard & burnt the paint or picked up  grit or was just polishing like a mad man . or   did not de-grease it after machine polishing  to see if he has missed any flatting marks etc , compound / wax fills or disguises the swirls , that's why after color sanding or denibbing & machine polishing , you should de grease the panels to see if you have missed anything !

ok back on track , I got a bit carried away  

 for OLD PAINT  I would use  a air powered polisher (mop) with a lambs wool pad & 3M perfect machine glaze ,  then hand glaze by hand as mentioned above , then your favourite wax  !
   
 may seem a lot of work ,  but  trust me if you  have a single stage black car ,  wax half a hood , then machine polish & hand glaze & wax the other half ,  the side that has been hand glazed will look Black ! black  & the side that has just been waxed will look like a smoke gray  well its still black , but compared to the other side ! ,
all what I have mentioned above , will NOT sort out  paint work that has been  wrecked by an inexperienced guy with a electric polisher (mop) ,  but it will help

my last superduty was black and had a new paint job. so damn anal on cleaning it. my new one is black and its getting new paint next year and will be black again! and its a bigger truck..... turtle wax black box is my best friend

However I must admit, a silver car is never really dirty...

Have owned three Aussie Chryslers , two in Mercury Silver with black bonnet and one that was close to B5.
Silver is so nice , but if my Charger wasn't black I'd have it in its factory QQ1, another exceptional colour, though Dirti Turbans T5 (7)? is real pretty too..

The original color of mine was T5 and I'd for sure be considering it except my last Charger was Turbine Bronze so I'm weary of the bronze/copper family right now.  I've had silver in the past and loved it.

I like the darker silvers that have decent amount of flake.  The silver used on 69's is pretty nice as far as I recall, but I don't think I've ever seen one in person.

man I loved all my black cars and I loved fckin polishing them, never did actually wax them since I would have to wax it again 2 days later only because I wanted too...all that polish made my cars slick looking, lol.

Yeah, the original A4 works great for me.  There are some modern ones that are great too and there are a few that can be little more than shiny grey.

black is the color you love to see in small doses looks great but cannot live with it. I have had 2 black cars never again. Silver is a great color but it has to be the perfect shade and a fine milky looking metallic. Here in Australia in the past 3 or 4 years silver is now the most popular color for new cars and has now overtaken white. My guess is that about 60% of all cars are silver. Silver is on my list for a color change also.
