noise on take off

69 Charger ,4 speed. Makes a noise on take off ONLY when I down shift. If I stop without down shifting ,no noise. Noise-hard to describe. Almost like a metal "crack" noise. Does it once on take off. Short ,not drawn out. Can "feel" it in shifter ,clutch pedal. Trans does sometimes pop out of 2nd when decelerating or coasting down a hill ,in 2nd only. Hope to look more this weekend but thought I'd ask in case anyone else has had this happen. Otherwise ,no problems. No vibration or other weird stuff. Actually wondering if pressure plate is loose. My first suggestion is to verify your shifter is adjusted properly and allowing 1st and 2nd gear to fully engage. If it is, then i am thinking you have a damaged shift fork or synchronizer/hub/ring for 1-2.

wouldn't hurt to make sure your trans mount is still ok.
