Goodness I think I become a Speed addict again!  :brickwall: Started with just wanting to to get the old girl running again!  :smilielol:

I guess it was 10 years ago that I first heard about the Edelbrock heads. Heard good and some not so good. How are they now?

Saw theses on Jegs.

Engine is only a 383  :shruggy: and thinking about the Cam Ron recommend.

Is the quality good? Still daydreaming but you never know!  :scratchchin:

Be careful Ken! I went from buying a 383 block ready to bolt together to getting a stroker kit and making the 383 a 496 from the "speed addiction".  :icon_smile_big:

The Edelbrocks are probably the best right out of the box. I went with the Mopar aluminum head, which is the same as the Edelbrock but with stock straight spark plug location instead of the angled spark plug locations of the Edelbrocks.

I know some people have used the Stealth heads. Read up on them. Cheaper then Edelbrocks. http://store.440source.com/440-Source-Stealth-Aluminum-Cylinder-Heads/products/36/

I did something similar to what General_01 did.  But I reused the heads and intake.  Cam went away.  It was the same one, and I liked it in the 383.  My compression was 9:1 stock and I don't know what it was after gaskets etc.....  If I had stuck with the 383, the 75 cc heads might have resulted in a significant change in compression and behavior, but I don't know.

Wait to see what others say.  I noticed you are looking at 84cc combustion chambers in the e street and not the RPM heads.  There are differences between the two and the others can tell you much more.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

stealths have been good for me. i had them checked out at the machine shop. i also swapped out the locks. i would have went with the eddys but i didnt wanna deal with the angled plug crap.

I run the rpm heads on my mild 383 build runs great so far under 1k miles though on rebuild.

Thank You for the answers. Sill a long way away from that point.

Hey Cuda

I bought the E Street heads for my rebuild, I was debating the RPM heads too but after looking at both of there specs which were identical I chose the E Streets (price difference of about $15 at Summit) Now the only issues I encountered was that my MSD ready to run distributor did not fit with them, after talking to both manufactures who both said the combo would work the Eddy guys said to grind some material off of the heads :scratchchin: I was shittin bricks doing this but I shaved just enough off of both parts till it would fit and spin. The other issue is the angled spark plug, it causes the spark plug boots to touch on the #1 header tube. All the rest of the plugs do have clearance, probably worth it for the benefit of the angled plugs. The quality of the heads is very good and thus far (only 2 tanks of gas) they have run really well.

I would recommenced :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I just got done building my 440 up with Stealth heads and my only problem was having to change out the locks to a 10* and having to shave the pushrod holes on the intake valves.

But I've literally only ran it for cam break in so far due to a leaky PS line. But the quality of the head seems to be good to me, and for the price you cant really beat it.

What's the difference between the E-Street heads and the Performer heads?   :shruggy:

good question I got the performer heads becuase I thought it was more for performance and the E street was for more casual person who wanted stock performance on the street?

I was told by a sales guy at Summit that the RPM heads are for a higher reving race engine thats were they make the power and the E Street are for better performance in the lower RPM range and make more torque. I you look at the specs for both though they seem identical on paper :shruggy: :shruggy:

The E-street heads are basicly identical to the RPM heads but use different valve seats which are less expensive (powdered metal vs ductile iron) There is also a 75cc E-street head which should be a good seller for guys who need a smaller chamber to bump up the static compression. I see the 75cc head being popular with guys that have a lower compression height piston.  :yesnod:

Hi Ron,

I heard the same but then I saw in a thread over at moparts that the chambers between the e-street (newer version?) look definately different from the rpm chambers. E-street chamber looks more modern imo.

ChargerST, the top pic is the 75cc E-street chamber.  :yesnod:

The 84cc E-Street and 84cc RPM both look like the bottom pic. Identical in every way except the valve seat material. The powdered metal seats are fine for milder builds but are harder to machine.

Here's where they could have an advantage : say you had a nice assembled sortblock with a set of 2266 flat top pistons (.080 below deck) using the typical felpro .040 composition head gasket.

(1) stock factory head @ 90cc = 8.66:1
(2) RPM/E-street @ 84cc = 9.06:1
(3) E-street @ 75cc = 9.76:1

* Take that E-street casting and give it a gentle shave down to 72cc and you're  at 10.02:1  :icon_smile_big:

It would be intersting to know how the 75cc E-street compares to the 84cc RPM given the same compression ratio...

For those with E-Street heads and stock exhaust manifolds on a 440, do you have any issues with spark plug access or interference with plug wire boots?

don duick

I tried a HP exhaust manifolds on RPM performer heads and spark plug clearance was fine. I assume the E street plug angles are same.

Sounds reasonable. Thanks.

I'm interested in th e-street heads as well because that are $300 cheaper than the rpms at $1,339 a set.Anyone  running these with stock rockers?

$300 cheaper? from where? Summit Racing they were $15 difference for a set.

I am using stock rockers in mine but will upgrade to rollers someday as there is some noise from the stock ones. (not adjustable)

I bolted the RPM heads on my 440  almost 35,000 miles ago. Good so far.

Angled plugs and headers are a pain. Edelbrock claims its worth 15HP for that angle.
