I went to change the oil in my 440 today and when I took the filter off it had very little to no oil in it. Is this normal? I am used to changing oil on a car and having the oil filter come off with a good amount of oil it in. The filter does have some weight in it like there is oil in the filter walls. I am running a MOROSO race oil filter on it. I had this issue last time I changed my oil filter which was a fram. I have not drained the pan yet. Just took the filter off and noticed this again. Pulled dipstick before taking off the filter and it showed engine was full of oil.

Whats the deal?

thanks,

Doug

Doug,

I wouldn't worry about it....it's just drainback. As long as you're not losing oil somewhere don't sweat it.  ;)

How is the oil pressure on start-up ?

Yes drainback. I consulted my brother in law who is a mechanic here in PA and he said the same thing. So that was good to hear from both sources.

I put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the motor this morn and spun over the starter until I saw the pressure build up to about 60 psi. Then fired it up and nlet it run for a minute or so and the engine held 80psi at 1200rpm in gear. Revved up engine and it stayed pretty true to the 80 psi. Put it in gear idle at 1000rpm still at 80psi.

That sounds like a healthy engine with 80psi cold.....mine is the same but drops to 55psi at hot idle.  :2thumbs:
