What do you guys make of this car?  States low miles, never titled but repainted some years ago.  No engine pics.  Paperwork available but no pics of any documentation. It also has a vinyl top and I thought all daytonas made were non vinyl top cars.  Superbirds were the opposite.

Its been discussed a few times including recently in the aero section but basically the 480 miles claim is total bs and the top was dealer added.  Its true the car has never been titled but it has been around and driven.

70 sublime

234 miles per year X 45 years =10530 miles

So it has never had plates but it gets 234 miles per year so does that mean it was all a 1/4 mile at a time ?   ;)

Here is the only DAYTONA IN EXISTENCE THAT COMES WITH MANUFACTURERS ORIGINATION CERTIFICATE. Low low miles.  Only driven sparingly and aproximatley a total of 234 miles a year. Car was repainted a long while back. And original red line style tires are as was installed on the car originally. Hey it's 45 years old!! That's right never titled. Been garage kept since 1969!  Brand new original style seat covers are included as well. ALL PAPERWORK IS AVAILABLE. BE THE FIRST PERSON TO TITLE one of the first ten DAYTONAS off the production line!!! If you title it you'll be the first to put plates on her!! A once in a lifetime opportunity.

Dealer tags, temp permit, illegally.  All kinds of ways to roll up the miles.

The speedometer with the red tenth numbers is not factory installed.  Factory installed speedometers had back tenth numbers only.  Red tenth numbers signify this speedometer is/was a service replacement.

Also it takes a lot of miles to split the upholstery in the driver seat like that.

; :yesnod:

Oh ya,  that car got the crap run out of it on dealer tags.
I wonder how many years the speedometer didn't work?
(In college I used to unhook and re-hook speedo cables for a 12 pack)

I recall reading about a surviving untitled Daytona in the hands of a dealership for decades, but I thought it was painted orange   :shruggy:

I believe that is known as the Dressler car.

Ok, so.....someone, somebody gets this ultra-rare car and they don't title it?  Why have none of the owners over the years taken that step?  Is this more of that "factory air in the spare" type of thinking?

Changed to correct wheels for sale.    Looks a lot better in my opinion.

Well, if it isn't the "G-MAN" himself inspecting the Charger!  Do you think the undercoating of the whole underside was done at the factory, or later ??

Considering the tailpipes are black - most definitely later.

Replacement speedo because of the red tenths digit.    It is a low mileage car, but not what is being claimed.    Car has been "offered" at unrealistic prices for years.

A couple of quotes from the above threads:

Correct Gene, IIRC this is car 300009, the car was actualy the fathers, never registered/titled, the car was originally intended for delivery to Elmwood Dodge, RI, but was refused, and transfered to Brocton, Mass.....where it saw use as a dealer promo, parade use, showroom model, etc, the car saw a few repaints over the years, one from day one, as it was damaged from being unloaded off the carrier,... the dash cluster was changed out ,...why?, two many stories from the brothers who were it's caretakers over the years after their Father past, the car was offered a few times for sale, with prices ranging from $80K all the way up to 1 mil, :eyes: over the many years, but seeing that it was being held between 3 brothers, each with a different agenda, Ron being the one that wanted to maintain the car in the family, the others looking at it potential value, it lead up to contention amongs the brothers,....I met and talked with the Brockton dealers service manger who recalled the car, and working on it,...didn't recall the reasons for the instrument replacement, but confirmed the one left in the trunk with 11K on the Odometer was the one replaced, the original Magnum Rims were also in the trunk, the car sat indoors, heated for most of it's life,....it was indeed an interesting car to study, as it was mostly undisturbed/unmolested... except for a few "bad" repaints over the years, and the dealer installed vinyl, ... assy wise, it was never touched, a VERY clean car

As I said I saw this car at the dealership back about 1987 or so.  The story I heard was that is was on the lot when it was new and this dealership was right on a busy 2 lane road and a guy lost control driving by and wiped the car out.  The car then sat in the back of the service garage for many years until someone got the idea to fix it.  I do remember the body work being pretty bad and maybe the vinyl top was to hid damage.

I hadn't seen this car since then until these threads.

So, maybe it isn't such a "clean" car after all?

Relatively new to this site, didn't know this car existed.  Pretty interesting despite some of the issues noted above.  Curious, why wouldn't the seller sell this at an auction?  Not exactly a typical eBay listing.

Ghoste

He may have tried IIRC, its been for sale a number of times over the years.  I think its even been mentioned in a magazine or two.
