Looks real iffy to me. I believe these pads were cut with a large diameter cutter wheel that leaves a pattern of curved cutting marks on the pad. This pad looks to have been ground down based on an assortment of random grinding marks. Plus the 1 and 4 look to have been double stamped.

The pad was originally done with a Bridgeport, the circular cutting marks would have been consistent to the top of the pad.

472 R/T SE

I've seen the double stamp quite a bit.

I don't know about the top pad but the last #'s of the VIN on oil pan rail look legit to me.  The 1 looks to be different but only because it looks as though the second one, the stamp wasn't fully seated.

imo

I own the block, and I will testify anywhere that it has not been restamped. Seeing as how it was taken out from under a bench from where it had sat since the mid seventies, I doubt anyone had the skill or technologies available to recreate that. Not sure why i would restamp a block for a car I can't seem to find......... a 4bbl car at that.....

experts......... :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

hello & welcome     ,

no one has said  YOU  have restamped it  ,
think " we "   (( although I think you are prolly / might be ,  refering  to my  post   though !))  are just pointing out what the photo of the pads look like ,  & we all know how the factory went about things & mistakes & errors they made .
even how one person interprets a picture differently  to the next guy  :yesnod:

the Aero Guys  on here ,  know their stuff , when it comes to wing cars ,  have records / info of who owned what & when & where !  hence why I posted your  motor advert on here  ,  if you can remember  the location from where the block was found , it might jog someones memory , into remembering  such & such etc

The only thing I see that I wonder about is the top pad,I've never seen a block that didn't have the holes for the valley pan end rails not countersunk. But then,I haven't seen them all. :shruggy:

sassysixpack

Thanks for you comments guys, I have been playing with mopars for 25 years and I have never noticed the countersunk holes before, I will check my other blocks. This block was acquired in eastern Manitoba, canada. It came with a 70 gtx I restored. I just got lucky when I checked the nascar registry and stumbled accross the vin. RS23U0A158614 is currently registered in British Columbia, Canada, hence my adds in those 2 areas. I can't trace the owner any further due to privacy laws. I am a purist and just want to see the block go back to the right car. I will not hold the owner ransom, I have had many offers to buy the block from everybody wanting to make their '70 383 car a six pack clone. I don't know anything about the car other than it was a 4 bbl and most likely a 4 speed, as the crank that was beside the block had a bushing in the back. I can take more pictures if anybody needs, but I don't think they will be any clearer. Every other 70 block I have is painted and hard to tell the font.

Thanks

DoubleDlover

ok. THis I have to see. This might be a one of a kind special order bird.. All birds that I know of started out as RM cars. an RS car would be a goldmine.. Holy smokes.

sassysixpack

Sorry, You are correct, I meant RM23......
