Operation Black Daytona:
Wanted to take the ole girl out and show alls well with the lights now. As pointed out on my facebook book, I need to check the license plate light and reverse lights........ Oppss...  The original safety neutral switch harness is missing and I believe that activates the reverse lights. But, I have one in my spare harness stash. I'll clean her up and get rid of the fix in-place.....

Whew !!! Man, what a long weekend... I'll have some other stuff to post....... But, I wanted to say a special thank you to Chuck, aka familymopar. The black car had locking lug nuts on them and I couldn't get them off. So, with his connections at a local Discount Tire, he was able to borrow a lug nut removal socket and it worked like a charm once I felt comfortable with whacking the heck out of it.... But, mission accomplished... But, another problem reared its head...... I'll share later......

Thanks again Chuck....

Operation Black Daytona;
Whoa.... A long productive weekend the Mopar-front. Started off in my Friday off starting on the engine starting situation. The neutral-safety switch was bad and the starting wiring was all rigged to work by bypassi...ng the switch. So, I installed an extra safety-neutral switch harness, new switch and starter relay. The problem was the lack of harness and bad switch. While at it, I replaced the make-do battery cable with my extra good 440 battery cable. She is all proper and cranks perfectly now. Then is discovered the bulkhead connector had issues with a past hot wire condition. The connector had melted terminals. I had an NOS bulkhead connector and replaced every wire !!! The engine harness was all patched together without washer bottle connector and messed up horn connections.
I used my good engine harness from the orange Daytona when I had the 440 in it. All works perfectly now. While at it, I drained the tranny, adjusted the front and rear bands, replaced the filter and installed new Fine lines tranny lines. Then, I noticed the strut bushings wasted as well as the shock tower bushings. I figured I would change out the bushings and of course, had to remove the lower control arm to remove the strut. Wellllllllll, the passenger side torsion bar was jammed into the lower control arm and WAS NOT coming out... Someone in the car's history whacked the heck out of the lower control arm... Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Never had this happen before. So, I had to literally cut the torsion bar in two. Luckily, I have spare XHD torsion bars. Now I need a passenger side lower control arm with sway arm perch... Anyone?
This can all be fixed relatively easy. But the electrical situation is very nice now and the horn works !!!!

Each day, the ole girl gets better.... Still amazed how straight it is....

1. starting culprit
2. old tranny lines with new
3. routed properly now
4. adjustment of bands and new gasket and filter

Wow Troy that is the worst lower control arm I have ever seen. I need to replace both of mine do to bad bushings too but I sure hope I don't see any hammer marks, I better check first.

That was not my work and I am pretty sure Larry would not do that either.

The components have been on there for a long time. Don't think anyone of ya'll messed with it. The lower bushings are shot. If you guys did it, they would be in much better shape. I would suspect 20+ years or so.......... It is what it is...... I have another lower control arm with new bushing on its way. I'll get the other one done and well, be done with it..... :-)

Uppers look fine.

Glad the electrical wire didn't go South on ya Allen, it was only a matter of time. I have dealt with that before going down the road with Dana and it wasn't fun...... Sort of scary actually ..... All's well now, terminals are nice and tight.......

I cannot come up with a logical explation for why someone would beat on that end of a control arm that heavily  :o   :shruggy:

Thanks to Tom, I have another control arm on its way with even a new bushing. I will take the other one out and replace that bushing. The uppers look fine. I have new dust boots for the torsion bars on their way. I have a spare passenger side XHD torsion bar too. That's why I only spent a little time jacking with the lower control arm and just cut the dang poor bar in two. That thing was not coming out. I have some other parts on their way too to add a little more correctness to the engine compartment.

Whew... Long weekend working on the black Daytona. Fixed the front suspension problems; strut bushings, sway bar bushings, lower control arm bushings, replacement passenger-side lower control arm thanks to Tom, upper control arm bumpers, replacement torsion bars, boots and retaining clips. Then I installed a windshield washer bottle with new motor and installed the hose loops... She's getting better. Parts are from Jaime at MegaPartsUSA

Operation Black Daytona:
Well, today I finally was able to mess with the Daytona some more. What started out as replacing the front upper shock tower bushings with NOS pieces and bumpers turned into replacing the upper control arm bushings. Being that I have a complete set of bushings, why not. Having the special bushing tool helps out a lot as well. It ain't pretty under there, but it is pretty dang solid and tight now. One day if I keep the car, it'll all get cleaned up... That tool is great.... So now all the bushings are new.... Also dug out years and years of grime in the framerail area of the upper control mounts. Metal looks great...

1. Old bushing; worn out.
2. Control arm swung away from the car for bushing access
3. Love this tool.... It also helps that the car's bushings and control arms are in great shape, albeit it dirty....... No rust.......  :2thumbs:
4. New bushings with the factory sleeve most people neglect to put back on.

Passenger side all back together. I scribed the position of the eccentric cams to the anchor points, hopefully they are all back together in the same position. But since I replaced the lower control arm bushings as well, I'll probably just go get the front end aligned in the near future.

Don't mind the greasy fender well.......   :icon_smile_big:  It's not restored...... It's a driver......  :icon_smile_cool:
