Getting varying figures across google, looks like its in the vicinity of 3/8 - 24 but need to know for sure.

For an A833 4 speed of course.

And how difficult is it to get the original ball type gear knob off? I've never tried.

Anyone?

Agree --3/8-24

I have an old shifter that someone has forced a 3/8-16 thread knob onto at one time and the first few threads are messed up because of that. If I have one that tells me their are others.  If you don't have a lock nut and the knob is real tight than I would try a piece of rubber hose that fits the knob and a pipe wrench.
