Is the '58 Fury the hardest Mopar to find?

Well, as it has been said many times on here, buy the most car you can afford.  From what you guys are saying this is an instance where this fact rings louder then most.

I don't have the time for a long drawn out restoration.  I already know if I attempt that the car MAY be back on the road in 5 years.  Whether a 58 Fury or 68 Charger I need a solid driver.  I'd see myself tooling around the midwest to a few shows and driving it to work 2-3 times a week weather permitting.

I will keep my eye out here and that Flook site.  Thanks guys, Duane

Get a complete assembled car with the sheetmetal as intact (and preferably original) as you can get.  All else is gravy compared to that.

In the car buying stage, DO NOT compromise on the body in favor of the drivetrain with the idea that it will come out cheaper in the long run.  It won't.

Got it.  After I win the lottery I will be dropping a hellcat driveline in Christine anyways... the combo just seem to go together perfect in my mind!

I know of one 58 fury in a wrecking yard with the tail panel cut out. Also have a friend parting a rusty 58 too.

What a moron for putting those scoops on a 58. I pity the Fool.  :shruggy:

Here's my '57 Savoy, needs almost everything, but not as much rust as most I've seen. It was on craigslist for well over a month before I talked myself into buying it. I don't know why people prefer the '58 to the '57? The only thing the '58 has better than the '57 is the lower grill. '57 has better taillights, headlights, Sportone trim (hockey stick) with the 3 horizontal stripes, and has the little "V" on both fenders instead of the grille.  :ahum:

If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

Here's a '58 for sale...

http://www.legendaryfind.com/cars/pin/335544/

I am watching that one on Ebay.  I see a 40k BIN price so I want to see how close the price gets.  I just haven't been watching these like chargers to have an idea of what a good value is.

The one with the hood scoops has been for sale for a long time.  It makes me think it is overpriced.

So just to change the discussion a tad to value, I am seeing that fully restored Fury is 70-80k.  How much do you think the value is of the 1) 440 4 speed Fury (with hood scoops) the 2) Christine Clone Belvedere, and the 3) convertible belvedere.

I think 1)30k, 2)25k, and 3) 20k.

Whether I go with the 68 Charger or Fury I need a solid driver to start with.  It would seem either path I need 30-40k to be in the game

F8-4life

I think 1)30k, 2)25k, and 3) 20k.

Sounds about right to me. Maybe a little on the low side.

:2thumbs:    yes  ,  its missing  Plymouth spelt out  in letters ! across the trunk lid  & or   a emblem around the lock  , seen one or the other , not sure really whats going on with these cars ,  seem confusing to me  , think  the forward look mob , mix & match parts from the  57 & 58 furys & Belevderes  , to make them look like Christine !  :shruggy: Cooter  will know more on this i'm sure  :2thumbs:  .

The main reason the 58 is picked over 57 is of course, "Christine".
One main debate with these cars is "57 vs 58". Furys came in ONE COLOR until 59. Buckskin Beige with GOLD trim. Commonly, but mistakenly referred to as "Golden Furys"
In 1957, one couldn't get the "Hockey stick" unless one bought the "Fury". Belvedere came with side trim that just went straight out the back with Sportone trim.
also, the rear view mirror was mounted near windshield in 57. For 58, it was moved beside speedo cluster.
F urys got standard 150 mph speedo. All others were 120 mph.

The 57 had the "ship" emblem commonly referred to as the "Gold turd" in the grille on ALL cars.
the 58 had the "V" emblem on all V8 cars including the all new, very first, 350 cubic inch, "Golden Commando" Fury OPTIONAL engine. 58 also saw the first FUEL INJECTED engine in Fury. These recalled set ups today have SOLD for as much as $15,000.00.....yes, uber rare and don't work.
standard engine was still 318.
with the introduction of quad headlights in 58, the grille halves are different. (Yes 57 halves will fit, but look like sh*t with a huge gap where that huge single head light was).
58 also saw the first year for the Sure Grip rear.

The 57 trunk had the "Wing ship" emblem around trunk lock, and P L Y M O U T H spelled out across hood.
58 was reversed, with all new winged Plymouth emblem in center of hood.
sheet metal was virtually same. I know of at least 7 different kinds of rear glass trim maybe due to assy. Plant locations, 2 different vent windows, 2 different windshield stainless, as well as a few other minor differences.

Seat backs for Fury's were "dipped" in center. Door panels were also Fury specific. Fury had chrome garnish moldings inside, as well as twin side dome lights.

Sportone trim could be had in two flavors. Stainless trim with painted center, or aluminum inserts in Fury GOLD, or Belvedere SILVER.

Entire rear trim, save for tops of fins, is different between 57 and 58. 58 tail lights can be made to fit 57, but  requires that the metal be hammered flat as the 57 tail lights sit at angles.
bumpers are identical. Lower "Skirt" under rear bumper different from 57 to 58. 58 had one reverse light in the lower skirt. Bumper "wings" (things on the outter sides) came ONLY on Furys in 57. In 58, one could option them on ANY model, but still were standard on Fury.
