Is the '58 Fury the hardest Mopar to find?

So my garage will one day consist of 1) '68 Charger, 2) '58 Fury, and 3) '87 Grand National.

I see #'s 1 and 3 on Craigslist, Ebay, and the likes all the time. However, I never find # 2.

Is the '58 Fury the hardest Mopar to find?  If not, what Mopar is?

Any leads on any Fury's would be welcome as well... but I reckon I probably would not get a lot of responses haha.

I think if you want to find one, you'd have talk with those into what they call the Forward Look.  Being that these cars have very little aftermarket, everyone with one is buying up as many as they can for parts.

Bob T

Google the Forward Look website, lots of info, pics and cars on their forum there, good bunch too  :2thumbs:

You would have better luck if you settled on a 1958 2dr hardtop savoy / belvedere.
The Fury I think only had a run of around 5,000 cars in 1958 and most consider '57-'58 furys among the most desirable.
If you need a legit fury try to buy one done because total basket cases can still run $15k or more.

Here is good read

there was a guy on craigslist , that wanted to swap  his 57 or 58 Christine shaped fury  , for a second generation charger  few months a go , no joke
it needed total resto but was all there if I remember correctly

I did post the Ad in the ebay section at the time !

I own a 60 Plymouth Suburban and until recently a 61 Newport hardtop. I love the Forward look cars so I watch 56-61 cars quite a bit. These cars tended to rust easily, production was low, and parts are much scarcer than your muscle cars. That said, keep you eye peeled - they do come up for sale, you just have to be patient. Of course, because of Christine, the 58 Fury has a bit of a premium on it.

The Forward look site is the best place I know of to make contacts for parts and tech talk.

4400 built. Only a handful built with Golden Commando V8. Many came through with 318 'Fury' V8.
FYI, "Christine" was a "Fury" in print only. Only available in Buckskin Beige. Couldn't get a red and white Fury till 59. I see many here bitching and whining about rust on the 2nd gen Chargers and still asking a mint.

It would be a joy to see what some of the comments are on a 60 y/o 58 Plymouth Fury, that's nothing more than termites holding hands....
My own 58 took 5 years of steady work to drive.

There was a very nice 1958 savoy 2dr hardtop at the nats.
Metallic blue with a hemi. I like the stripped down side trim vs. the big & expensive belvedere trim.
Cooter have you ever seen a savoy with factory bumper wings? Could they be ordered on any trim level or only the top of the line stuff?
Honestly I think on a '58 it just needs the bumper wings. Just not the same without them.

While on the subject, this is a pretty interesting 58 on ebay.

As Cooter says, figure out if you really want a Fury or you want Christine.  Two different things.

IMHO for a car like that you should really try to avoid a resto.  Restos are always difficult money losers on anything but especially here.  At least with '69 Chargers you had more of them made, with a little bit better rustproofing, and 70% of the car is in a catalog now.  Trying to do that level of resto on a rusty old '58 seems like a pretty thankless task.

duanesterrr

Thanks for the help and information.  I will keep checking those sites you listed.

I have seen the 72k one for sale for awhile.  It was around 80k before.  Unfortunately, that is a tad out of my price range.

The 440/4speed one is more my type for sure.  It has been for sale for awhile as well and has always been 40-45k.  I will keep an eye on it.

The 58 convert looks cool too. hmmm...

To answer Mike's question, I want a badass Christine.

RallyeMike

Be patient and ready to spring. I'll be looking forward to hearing the story and seeing some pics.

Thanks Tan Top.  Maybe I should make a Christine vert clone.

Bob T

For starters they are 10 -13 years older than Gen II Chargers and probably been less well looked after, hard to find a good one and like everything else of similar age has been through one or two rebuilds by shops or car guys doing their own thing.

A few mates that I knock around with are all Fin Car Guys.
Glenns 57 Fury would have to be one of the best on the planet, super nice and runs like a train after a big $$ resto, but he drives it everywhere - it gets used man. Used to be a right hooker as it was shipped to Australia new, duals quads 318 Poly.

Johnnys 58 has the 350 B motor with dual quads also, bit more patina on this old girl but it pulls like a train and has got cutouts just like Glenns.

I quite like the Imperials of a similar era too, here's Lukes 60 Le Baron, what a car.
All three cars have the optional 45 record player  :2thumbs:

And, there's also Marks 300F, numbers with the 413 and Ram, super cool car.

I did a run a while back and we had a few cool Fins come along turn up, check it out , it has a great shot of the the record player at the end.

Look in the NJ sections on Craigslist. IIRC I saw one advertised on there very recently. 99% sure it was probably a Belvedere though.
