Building my 512 stroker soon and wondering on engine paint color. When I got the car the 440 was Turquoise and I pulled it, cleaned it and painted it Orange. What do you think would look good under the hood as far as color?

Do you want correct? If so Orange up to 72. After 72, Mopar Blue.
If not my vote is Turquoise.

Actually, turquoise is correct for 68 hp 440. Orange ran 69 through 72.

My suggestion is make it year specific correct color. Either looks good in a dark engine bay visually.

On a slight tangent....who makes a good/correct Turquoise rattle can?

comet_666

It's a 69 with a 70 440 in it.

Mopar Nut

Orange.

What color were you thinking?

Good eye tantop, I'll piggyback his question and ask if the car is in the 69 Registry?

comet_666

Thanks for the input guys!

It is in the charger registry, I believe Hamtramak or however you spell it...I only have the vin so that is all I know.

comet_666

Is it possible that is just a speed hole?

;D

According to a couple different charts, back to 66, HP were orange

Is the mystery hole for some option I do not know about? I have seen other 69's and they do not have this hole..

comet_666

I think i'll go orange, not sure why it was painted turquoise to begin with. I do not think it was a HP although it has the forged crank.

They all had forged cranks in those years.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

its no option , that is known  , not all early cars got them  ,  seems some  cars with the  sequential #  starting 10****  to  12****   was across the range   all engines  &  both assembly plants & XP XS & early XXC500 chargers  too  :scratchchin: :shruggy:

I wish it were possible to pull that site. That list is so full of wrong information that keeps getting recycled it causes more problems than it solves.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Hang on, all these guys are talking about colour ,
Look at the thread for show me your engines,
If 512 , like me put engine on a diet , ? Alloy intake valley cover to suit alloy heads, water pump housing , water pump, look at mine , you can barely see any area's of paint on block, only from underneath , mines 69 so went orange, my 68 is the turquoise, only because when building the engine it was on a stand ,
In hindsite it didn't mater , I would have liked to have painted mine gold in the 69

john108

My original 1968 Charger R/T 440 was and is Turquoise.

John_Kunkel

I would guess that a 512 stroker isn't going to be passed off as original so why worry about factory colors?

I wouldn't even consider turquoise and orange would be stunning in a black engine compartment but for practicality I'd paint it black. Easier to keep clean.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
