yes , think its going to be really difficult to prove 100% which car it was or is !  don't know much about these early race cars , but looks like the chassis or rather front end  has been altered a bit & passenger side door bars  , but i'm far from a  expert , & have not seen enough of these to compare  
i'm I bit supprised it has come up forsale on ebay , would of assumed something like this would of sold word of mouth to race car enthusiasts etc  ,

I would agree that the best cars don't have to be advertised.    This one has been off the radar screen for a while.  

As far as altered, yeah, once the car gets to the lower levels and Goober and Gomer get hold of it,  anything is possible.     Stuff can get changed around pretty quick.

The chassis of the Baker car is quite a bit different than this one.    It has a few similarities, but the Ebay car has design features that appear to pre-date the 1968 skin on it.

yes , that's the one      !  , should of said the #6 Daytona show car ,  that keeps coming up for sale or is still for sale  ,  sure there was  mention of it being a earlier chassis 1967 may be  &  looked a earlier dash in there  too ,

That "#6 show car" started off a 68 Cotton Owens short track car, driven by Charlie Glotzbach.  It got wrecked and set aside...
In early 70, Chrysler paid Cotton to build them a Show Car Daytona. Cotton took the wrecked car, hammered it out, added the Daytona parts.
He used a street front spoiler, since it was to be trailed around the country to auto shows and that makes it much easier to load/unload.
It also has street wing supports.
It has a carb with a choke, for easy starting!  I have heard it doesn't sound like it has the 12.5 pistons, which makes perfect sense, since it never saw the race track after the conversion to a Daytona.  Being able to run on local premium pump gas is how you would build a "Show Car".
I'd bet it's a street hemi with a lumpy cam and the bathtub intake.

Buddy Baker never sat in it, either.

Andy Agosta did. He was the young kid that Chrysler hired and it was his job to take the car around the show circuit!  Nice job to have!

Bobby Allison driven Charger owned by Jim Vandiver.   1970 Permatex race at Daytona.    The subject car was said to have been owned by Vandiver at one time.

EDIT:   Ebay car has no evidence of dark blue paint, so this likely ain't it.

I wouldn't want it if they shipped it to me for free. Looks terrible. You would need one of those body shops with 10 guys working on it for a month to turn it into a car again.

True. 

But it's also true for half the 318 project cars in the hobby these days too. 


At least as a real NASCAR that thing has a good excuse to be in terrible shape.  And it has some real value when it's done.

think there is some  close up film of that  #31 car ,  in a video tape ,  I bought years ago from rare sports films , will look into it , if its a tape ive converted to dvd will take screen captures  , or take pictures of the screen if tape & post here
