That would be cool if it was a Buddy Baker car.  White paint on the A pillar Is there anything that is unique to Buddy Baker in particular to differentiate from the other cars?

But it looks restorable IMO, at least for a legit GN car from that era.  These cars are usually nothing more than original rollcages by the time somebody goes to restore them.  

These weren't street cars.  For the first 20-30 years they existed, nobody with non-destructive intentions was even bidding on them.  They got passed down through the amateur ranks until there was nothing left.  

Complaining that it survived in shitty condition is like complaining that a 45yo hammer has been used to hit a lot of nails.  That's exactly what it was made for.

Roll cage is a 66-67- style.
Upper rear shock area are Nichels Engineering sourced.
Has the wet sump cross member.
Firewall has been cut real bad...
Seat is wrong era.

If it was a 1968 Buddy Baker - Ray Fox car, it would have been built with all 68 parts, like the cage, for example.

Now it "could" have been an original '67 Charger Baker - Ray Fox car, based on the cage, BUT
the dashboard doesn't match...   

Too many questions and no paperwprk. Need to see vintage pics showing areas of the car that match.

Provenance with these cars is extremely difficult to prove. Having restored a "Bobby Allison" car about 10 years ago that Bobby swore was one of his cars and realizing latter that it was more than likely a Die Gard car I know first hand that things are not always what they appear to be. That being said without a paper trail this car would be considered little more than a tribute car and you would be lucky to get $30,000.00 for it when done. The long and short of it is "Stay away from old stock cars".

Very sad but true. The things he remembers are things other people have told him about the past.

Rough as a cob.    There are not many choices out there for pre-1972 Chrysler stock cars, generally considered the "golden era".   There also are not that many of us who will have the bug for this kind of thing.     So I guess it works out.     That said, I would find something better to start with. 

This car was certainly a big time (ARCA, NASCAR, USAC) car at one time.   The question is, "which one"?     The hammer analogy is spot on.   Nobody cared about the history of these things back then.    There is no way that this started as a new for '68 car.   It's older.

I messaged the seller asking what proof he had that it was a Baker charger. He replied that he had a letter from Ray Fox stating it was and if I wanted to see the proof to bring money to buy the car.

suspect that approach by the seller won't help the car sell anytime soon at that price.  Wish him well in the spirit of preserving history though

I wonder how many times he's been asked that question?  Serious buyers for that kind of car will want proof and being a dick to any of them won't help you.  Small niche audience for race cars.

yes , think its going to be really difficult to prove 100% which car it was or is !  don't know much about these early race cars , but looks like the chassis or rather front end  has been altered a bit & passenger side door bars  , but i'm far from a  expert , & have not seen enough of these to compare  
i'm I bit supprised it has come up forsale on ebay , would of assumed something like this would of sold word of mouth to race car enthusiasts etc  ,  

 wonder if the surviving buddy baker Daytona has a similar chassis to this car ,
