Brake pedal play

I'm getting into this 66 Valiant. One of the issues it has is that the brakes pedal just "falls" completely down and the brake lights go on. There is a ton of play in the pedal. I have no checked fluid level yet but I have never seen this happen on any car I've owmed in the past unless there was a line or wheel cyl blown. That doesn't appear to be the case.

Any ideas?

When you say it "falls down", you do mean it goes to the floor when you step on the pedal, right?
I had a bad master cylinder once that had an internal leak. The fluid would bleed past the pressure cup & fill in behind (but not past the end seal, so no external leak), resulting in a pressure loss. With just light pressure on the pedal, it would take maybe 10 seconds before it went to the floor...if I stomped on it with lots of pressure, it would hold it longer, but would eventually bleed down & the pedal would ease to the floor...usually it took about a minute.

I replaced the master cylinder & all was right with the world once again. :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
