I JUST FINISHED MODIFYING A 68-69 GTO [NEW] VACUUM ACTUATOR AND AS I PREDICTED IT WORKS JUST LIKE ORIGANAL . FOR THE FEW WHO WANT TO USE THAT RAM , WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO REINVENT THE WHEEL . MY LOGIC IS KEEP IT SIMPLE AND CLEAN

Good idea, & glad it worked for you. Sorry for asking, but did you post more on this in an earlier thread? Anything that is readily available & functions without any trouble is cool with me. I did buy a '70 Charger electric headlight motor a while back on ebay cheap & had figured I would have it checked & use it. If yours works fine, I'd consider that instead since you're dealing with new & not 35 year old parts & a makeshift set up. Reliability is more important for me than originality.

Thanks for posting this, Bob

THEY WORK FINE , AS FAR AS THE 70 CHARGER MOTOR , IT WILL NEVER WORK I INSTALLED IT AND THE WEIGHT OF THE DOORS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ARE FAR GREATER THAN THE STOCK CHARGER FLIP UP DOORS . GO AHEAD KNOCK YOURSELF OUT WITH THAT 35 YEAR OLD MOTOR , IT WILL LAST TEN MINUTES , MINE WORKED ON MY DAYTONA NOSE FOR THAT LONG THEN IT TOOK A SHIT .LARRY

Larry,
Excuse my ignorance, but is there a way to show us how it actually works and what did you have to do to the arm other than cutting the angled piece off to make it mount up?  I haven't seen an actual headlamp assy in motion so to speak. Looks like you've solved a big problem for the cloners and just maybe the real car guys as well.

I wouldn't say it'll never work, I've been reading & discussing about how it's been used with success in the past, & that goes back to before any internet forums ever existed. It still isn't the best option in my opinion, but it may still be a valid one. I'm not disagreeing that yours didn't work, but I'm glad you posted that it didn't. I like to hear all the pros & cons before starting my headlight dilemma. I'd love to see more of your actuator pics, & even more info, like where you got them & how much they cost. Was it through an aftermarket supplier or GM?

Thanks again for posting this, Bob

Food for thought... I will bookmark for later. I can't even think about the front end of the car yet. I am still wrestling with the trunk lid. Rick

Actually, I'm like a sponge when it comes to the wing car stuff right now. I hope to know exactly what I'm doing when I get to the point of assembling the daytona nose. I've already committed to placing the headlamps in the grill on the superbird since I had Don close up the headlamp openings altogether on my sb nose. With the black decals, it won't be that obvious like it would on a daytona nose.
I bought a grille/headlamp setup from an 88 sunbird which has two seperate headlamp capsules made of aluminum that hold the mid size rectangular capsules. The lamps will be totally adjustable. I may cover them with a black mesh grille that can be easily removed. The headlamps will shine through the mesh to some degree if needed. They will look like the sb in the picture that I've attached.
My Daytona project will have the conventional headlamp setup like yours. The bird nose grille opening is just more suited to the headlamp modification since it's larger and lower on the nose.

Oh yeah...that six pack is going to have a lot to say.
My wife has already challenged me to a race with her hemi chal convert. The gauntlet has been thrown down.  ;D

That pic is actually the limelight clone that belongs to Bill from up around Oregon. It just turned out yellow when I lightened it up. You won't be able to see my headlamps with the grille screen in place. I hardly ever drive my cars at night, but the headlamps are just in case and to make the car legal.
I'll put the bug-eyed lamps in the daytona clone.

Rene,
I like everything about that car except the mud flaps. I wonder if he has any nice pics of the car without them.

          Larry.
glad to see you went with the vacumm,.....as it is a more easlly installed, passive to the headlite structures,............electric set-ups require "beefy" construction   (re: steel) the only fiberglass permissable is the cone, and  outer doors, which are decorative in nature,...........I,ve installed electric set-ups for customers insistent apon having them , they can work, but must be engineered, machined to tolerance, all parts must be new,...............old motors are "tired"...............therefore usless!...........so rebuilt or NOS motors are needed,..............as I mentioned in another post regarding this matter,...........to have 1 motor handle the lites, is asking a lot!,...........although I've done it in the past with the single Chrysler motor,.............I now prefer the GM/ pontiac motors when a customer prefers the electric set-up, ....which I try to discourage because of the amount of fabricating/ machining envolved!..........................the majority of my customers prefer the stock set-up , Vacumm,............Hotrod98(Larry),..........I believe you asked me earlier, what the travel was to raise the lites on a Daytona/ Bird,..................answer , you need a piston/ rod assy with 2. 125" min travel from retracted to fully extended, of course this is based apon the factory desinged pivot points, those being the main pivot shafts, and the canister/ rod PIVOT FACE arm, all having fixed triangulated points, which you must know in order for the 2.125" (factory 68/ 69 Charger  vacumm canisters) factory vacumm pods to work,...........however if you design your own piviots/ buckets assys, you'll have to engineer your own pivot points based on what type of vacumm canister you use, based on its travel limits,........................as I'm sure Daytonalo (Larry) is/ has done by now, ....................you guys should take notes on Daytonalo's progress,................................................. and start applying your own automotive knowhow to solving some of your questions/ problems,......

Daytonalo (Larry),.......what is the stroke measurement of the GTO assy,.............It looks promising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU MIKE , LET ME START OFF BY STATING , I HATE JUNK YARDS , I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR THE PATIENCE TO LOWER MYSELF TO THE MENTALITY OF THE JUNK YARD OWNERS . I JUST CUT THE ACTUATOR ROD AND BENT IT 90 DEGREES AND I WILL HAVE 40 YEARS OF SIMPLE TROUBLE FREE OPERATION. LARRY

Nice work daytonlo .Retro fitting other brands of parts is the way to go .When orginal parts are not around. And our junkyards are drying up with old car stock .We were lucky hitting that old yard I gone to for years and getting a 69 charger roof for $50.00

I told daytonalo early on the 70 headlight degrees differed from the daytona .When he was going to use the existing 70 charger stuff his car had.I never really cared for the way the 70 charger and other electric headlight car.The way the headlight doors slammed open and closed. Why isnt there like intermitant relay like the wipers use on newer cars to open them slower. But daytonalo went to a new yorker in a junkyard and tried another form of electric headlights .Now hes got a better idea and system .Hopefully he will get it developed. To become a new user standard.

DAVE YOU ARE MISSING THE WHOLE POINT, THE ELECTRIC MOTOR WILL WORK FROM A 7O CHARGER WITH SOME FABRICATING , BUT THE ONE I HAVE THE GEAR IS STRIPPED AND I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN GO ON A TREASURE HUNT . I WILL MAKE IT REAL SIMPLE , THE VACUUM IS FAR LESS COMPLEX AND I JUST PICKED UP THE PHONE AND THEY WERE AT MY DOOR IN 1 DAY . ONE MORE THING , LET SAY I WENT WITH AN 40 YEAR OLD ELECTRIC MOTOR , BE REALALISTIC HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT WILL LAST ?  LARRY

I agree Im all for newer technology for that old car headlight problem.Get it perfected .And there will be a new user standard created

There a few people on here have used with no problem , all you had to do is ask a few members on here to walk you through the inner workings of that complicated device
