I had forgotten how much fun it is to install a set of headers on a b-body. :brickwall: :brickwall:  Took 10 minutes to install the passenger side and 3 days for the drivers side :icon_smile_big:

Yeah, thats about right.

If they were heddman headers hope you didn't forget the hammer!!!!!  :yesnod:

How much "massaging" did you have to do with the Doug headers?

fy469rtse

The trouble with most sets out there is
They were designed and made to fit steel heads with plug holes straight and not angled
Try to fit these to alloy heads with angled plug holes that's where you get into trouble , company's need to list not just what body style they supposedly fit but what heads they are made to fit,
I like the headers from dougs , experienced now with what needs doing to them
Always order then uncoated, so I can cut and modify pipes for clearance plug six , change routing for less heat around starter and clearance to factory steering box ,
Why not hookers you ask ? At least the dougs are a decent gauge pipe, modify clean up welds and then get them coated ,
Yes I know TTI's fit great, if they just dropped there prices to a reasonable level , they would put the competitors out of business

:pullinghair: :coocoo: :faint: :fireangry: that's what I think about headers on a b body.

so I gather I shouldn't get headers for my 69 charger then...

maybe ill stick with the exhaust manifolds....... :-\

Ghoste

Personally I love headers, yes some installation headaches but to me they're worth it.

It'd be a boring world if we were all the same.

is it true with headers you will go thru a lot of starters because of the heat?

and do header bolts back out more ofter then manifold bolts, or is there a way to keep the header bolts tight other thank Loctite?

Ghoste

I've only had starter/header/heat issues on one car and it was a smallblock where one tube was nearly touching the starter.  I haven't had problems with any big block cars but I know others have.  :shruggy:
I've always made it a point with headers to periodically check the bolts.  I typically check them a couple of times a season and tighten them maybe once a year.

I run the Doug's and did not have to do any "massaging" in terms of hammering or cutting/modifying a pipe.  They were a pain and I scratched my inner fenders up, but they went in as is.  All I needed was to get a smaller starter.  I got a mini starter from Summit for my application, it did not fit.  So I went to O'Reilly's and picked up a starter for a 95 Durango.  Have never had a problem with it.

It's possible but I wouldn't worry about it. You could always wrap the starter with a heat shield as well.

Get a set of Stage 8 locking fasteners. I have a set on mine and they are as snug as the day they were installed (2+ years ago).

No didnt have to use a hammer, but had to remove the pitman arm, slice the edge off of the Lakewood bellhousing and slide the steering column back. I havent installed the plugs yet so cant say on that. Only complaint is that the drivers side collector is real close to floor, compared to the passenger side which is a good 2 inches from floor. The ones I got have the 2" primaries and they are very close to the starter(mini)  and torsion bar bars, but the fit is pretty dang good.

Do what you want.  You have to weigh the performance advantage over the cost and aggravation.  Personnally, I would not put headers on anything unless it was fast enough to require a roll bar.  You will be giving up some power, but for the $ spent on the headers, you might be able to find the difference in power somewhwere else.

Yours runs 11's through manifolds..... lol. That requires a roll bar...  i love your car.

Thanks.

Actually, 11.50 needs a bar.  Just a tire away though.  The motor is sitting here on the stand with a couple of tweaks I made and should go 50s or maybe even 40s in good air.  Kinda got board with it though and started a std stroke, pump gas, factory iron head 440 that I want to run in the car.  The goal is 12.50s at 112 with manifolds and no other changes to the car.

So, just go out and start making them yourself, sell them for $200 less per set, and you'll be rich.  Hell, they have already done all the work, all you need to do is copy them.
