Daddy knows best...

"Under either a carbon tax or a cap-and-trade applied to fuel, consumers will undoubtedly pay more at the pump," Steinberg told the Sacramento Press Club on Feb. 20. "Higher prices discourage demand. If carbon pricing doesn't sting, we won't change our habits."

Mike DC

Politicians can't make the earth produce 100 million barrels of crude oil per day.  That's about what it would take to keep gas prices where we want them.

If gas prices don't climb because of taxes --> reduced demand, then prices would go up from simple supply & demand instead.

Ghoste

True, but higher taxes also have not been proven to do squat for either the economy or bankrupt state governments.  They haven't really been proven to make the world a greener, shinier, happier place full of rainbows, puppies and unicorns either and yet somehow the state of Kaliforninackistan seems to think it will.

They tried that sh/t here in Australia, we booted that government out of office!

No-one but the tree hugging lefties ever thought it would be a good idea and somehow they swayed government policy but in the end the people spoke and won!

Make your protests loud and proud and it should get defeated...

Thank you for saying that.   The tree hugging lefties intrude way too much.  Perhaps they have more time on their hands :shruggy:
It doesn't take much time to vote and that is the best protest.

Sounds like we need to change the politicians habits, not the other way around.  So tired of their input on what we drive and features cars must have.MPJ

True but they are just trying to buy what they perceive as the largest pool of voters and the left whiners are crying to them the most right now.

Oh sure it will-it'll change for the worse...

I thought it was supposed to break off and sink into the Pacific back around 1999 or something?  Didn't Nostradamus tell us that?  Or Bil Bixby?

Gas prices are going to go up over the long term no matter what happens here.     The problem with this tax is that it is intended to be punitive and hurts low and middle income earners the most.    It just takes money out of the economy that those folks would otherwise spend in the private sector.    To me, that makes no sense.

Very well put.

$5.21CDN for a U.S gallon up here for the cheapest 87 octane

I'm not in favor of Cali adding a Carbon tax.

But a realistic gas price is already much higher than it is now.  The govt officially taxes gas up a little, while indirectly subsidizing it down a lot more at the same time.

I don't want to pay more - I just want more of the current bill to be paid at the gas pump.

I can see a day when the Government will tax the amount of "air" you inhale.....it just never stops
