How much is this '71 charger worth?

I know nothing beats an actual professional appraisal, but I have heard some very broadly differing opinions at a few local car shows as to whether my Charger is worth more or less than I paid for it, and I figured that some of the more knowledgeable heads on here might know (since I wasn't born when these cars were rolling off the line and am relatively new to them).

My car is a 1971 Charger 500, with no rust, original 318 and torqueflite 904 with 72XXX miles (no odo rollover), factory paint coat (which is faded due to oxidation in the pictures but buffs up to a mirror finish), and pretty much all original everything.

The history as relayed to me from the seller (so technically heresay) is that the car was daily driven by the original owner for 14 years, and then garaged in '85 and didn't see sunlight until 2013, when it was sold to the second owner (who I bought it from). He states that all he did was get it running (so new brakes/tires/belts/hoses/battery/etc) and nothing else and sold it to me after about two months. It's got a lot of little things (you can see some tearing in the drivers seat, the original dash has a hairline crack, the ac has a slow leak, the horn doesn't work, and the strip of vinyl top under the rear windshield is missing) but it runs like new, shifts smooth, and I had the front end totally rebuilt (ball joints, tie rod ends, steering gearbox, idler arm). I paid 7 large and was under the impression I got a bit of a steal, but I've heard varying responses to that. Any opinions? :)

7k may seem high to some people, but in my book, 7k for a rust free car is well worth it, if you value time, people spend weeks or months fixing rust alone, so, just in my opinion that justifies what you paid for it, are you trying to sell it? or just trying to figure out if you got your moneys worth?  :scratchchin:

seems like a bit of a deal to me for a rust free 3rd gen    :yesnod:    :2thumbs:

From what I've seen that is a good deal for that car seems like a very clean car for the money  :2thumbs:

Nice options. Not sure who is giving you guff, but we'd kill to find one that clean on every street corner.

Not a screaming deal, but a fair price. Good buy for you, good sale for seller.

As others have said, fair deal, not a screaming deal the party selling made plenty of money, looks clean though!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Man, that car looks REALLY nice !  That spitzer emblem is pretty crazy.

at 7K I think it's a steal.  If I saw that car on the street for sale for that I'd be all over it. Put some wheels on it......done!

You rarely see any pre-75 mopar of that quality for that price.

I dig it.  :2thumbs:

That car would be almost double that here in Canada!  :-\

:2thumbs: Good buy in my book!  Nice, clean car.  Maybe it's because your in Cali, the others out there are use to seeing less rusty cars hidden away and think they can find one for less.

Hmmm... Another Charger here in Redding!

Nice '71. Looks like a good deal to me!

Rust free in almost worth its weight in gold far as i'm concerned....mainly cause i hate doing body work

I'd say for the conditions and nice color combo ( not extremelly common ), with AC... it worths what you paid, and even maybe a tad more.

You already bought it, so don't worry about what it's worth unless you're trying to flip it.  Just start planning your life with it...

Well, I am by no means and expert but knowing how much work and time it takes to fix rusted areas I wish I would have bought 'smarter'.   As others said, the rust free part is worth $7k.  You will have put 10,000 miles on your car before mine ever sees the light of day and I've had mine three years already.  Good buy for good money.  Overall a Great Value!   :2thumbs:   OK...  Go Lite 'Em Up'!!

RallyeMike

I'd say $7k is pretty fair in CA. It's not nice enough to earn an unrestored survivor bonus, and its not a performance car. It does have some nice options like the colors, buckets, console, rallye gauges and rear lights (topper?). Good find.

Homerr

Looks like a solid deal.  For it to be a 'steal' I'd have to say it would need to be down in $4k territory.

Bob

It's a solid 71, 500. Money well spent.  :2thumbs:

You did very well for $7K. Nice original steel - You don't see straighter front and rear valances than what you got - A 500 - And very original looking (No one has tried to make it into a hot rod) - Runs and drives. Perfect car to drive and enjoy. Scott.

Thanks for the input, guys :) I plan on driving it for a long time to come, not selling, but it was more just out of curiosity than anything else. On a side note, does anyone know what the Spitzer logo is about? The guy I bought it from said he thought it might have been the dealership, but he wasn't sure and I've yet to see any other chargers with it.

Was your '69 in Kool April Nites this year? I don't recall it offhand.

You've got a very clean, original, rust free Charger there - and that's a very good place to start.  :yesnod:   Yes, Spitzer is a dealership.  I'll also agree that 7 grand is a good price, and nobody got hurt in the deal.   :Twocents: :Twocents:

Enjoy the car.  :2thumbs:
