Tiny rant about a tiny money problem

I know I can only blame myself for this, but I can't seem to control my spending habits. Now is it not so bad that I don't have money as I still make enough to support my spending habits. But damnit it, I waste all this money, I could have been driving a very nice car. I just spend over 5k in USD in 4 months and I have nothing left. It is all gone. The only thing that is still around to show that I spend money is some clothes (ok a lot) and an Ipod. Otherwise everything is gone. It all went to tickets (way way way too many, I have got to learn to control myself and obey the law somewhat more), drinks, parties, gas, girls, food and other pleasures which I don't really need. I have been having one hell of a time though, it is breaking me up the 6 days a week work and maybe 2 or 3 nights going out during the week. It is just that I can't help it, I can't say no. I'm just up for any party anywhere any time. But I just did my taxes, and I blew away over 5k between 8/05 and 12/05. That is a lot of money, that could have bought me a mopar or any other car for that matter. Over the entire year I made more the 10k. I currently have a ballance of +70 USD. But my paycheck is coming in again in 5 days so I still have 70 bucks to blow on saturday night. Ok I was kind of pissed about all the money being gone, but while typing this out I realised that I just probably had the best year a student can possibly have. I mean I have had more hangovers than there are weekends this year. Ok rant off, feel pretty good again. Probably going to continue on the same foot as I did. As long as I can afford it.

:smilielol: Really I know that it sounds like a lot, but really my favourit drink (vodka redbull) goes for $8.50 at the club I usually go for. That is another reason why my spendings are so high. Everything just got too expensive over the last couple of years.

You should have your check automatically deposited and have a portion of your paycheck - that you know you will not need placed on a 401K, money market or cd or something that you can't easily withdrawl from. Before you know it you will be looking for a real 2nd gen. HEMI Charger or HEMI bird! Wasting your money on drinks? Pleeeeze! Your problem can be managed - just do it! :yesnod:

If you're 30 or younger, go for it.  I mean, that is what life is about -- after 30 you still have plenty of time to get serious.  Heck, I never even went to grad school until I was 37 and was 50k in the hole in 1990, with no job and an old rx7.  But I am a cheapskate and I don't know if I ever paid 8.50 for a drink.  Kim

Buy a bottle of Vodka and mix your own drinks before going out, it'll save money in the end.
If you're having a lot of hangovers you should consider changing your preffered drink or pounding some water before you go to bed - so you wont have a dehydrated brain [hangover]

Don't skimp on the women, you'll never get them easier than at your age--   soon you'll be 40 and they [hotties]won't want to look at you [ well the ugly 40 yr old women will]

Enjoy it while you can, You don't say if you have a wife and kids then I would say you are irresponsible if you are blowing that kind of money and then going out 3 days a week. But if you are single then well it's your money.

I can sit and lecture about learning how to save and putting money away for a rainy day but hey again it's your money. Of course if I had to do it over agian and start from my 20's and save money I would literally be able to buy my house for cash and buy a fully restored Charger for cash.

That is what I just realised that if I had to do it over again I probably would do the same thing. It is just too much fun. It's a waste of money but so is restoring a car. Because in the end you probably won't get out of it what you put into it.

ya its nobody else's fault but yours. I can control myself thats why I got all my toys and I got money saved up for whenever I need it. Although I wouldnt mind going out more but its either going out and spending all my money or saving it up and it'll pay off in long run

Take out a certain amount of cash each paycheck, stick it in envelopes designated for specific purposes and spend only that until you get paid again. Once the cash is gone you're done spending until the next payday.

Enjoy it while your still young. Sometimes I miss those days myself. Just think, while you were typing all that you were probably missing out on a cool party somewhere.

you know I talk to old people like that. Ones that became wiser with age. Guess what they tell me, that Im doing right thing working my butt off and not spending all the time and money on parties and alcohol, etc. You have to become responsible for your life some time in this life, and sooner the better. It doesnt matter if you're married or not.

Uhmm I don't think I agree with you. Look at it this way. I am working my ass off (6 days a week is enough, don't you think). Sure I could save that 800 euro's a month and in 2 or 3 years I could buy myself a Charger. Ok that would be cool. And I didn't say I am irresponsible, I am responsible, I pay all my bills and tickets on time. I do what I am told. My mom is a single parent and she needs all the help she can get. I do a lot for her. I take all my kid brother and sisters to and from their sports and other events. All I said is that I just spend a lot of money on stuff that isn't material. So eventually it will be the same as you spending all your money on the Charger. But in the end I won't have something to look at and say see that is where all my money went. I just have the memories of all the parties, girls, etc. I guess it is just what you prefer.

is your wage paid straight into the bank? if so just set up a deposit into a savings plan that goes out on payday, something that takes a bit of effort to get out again or has a notice period so you wont be tempted to take it out. That way you will get used to having a bit less to live on and the money will be there if you need it for something important

oh .. and find somewhere cheaper to drink :icon_smile_big:

Bi-polar?

No offense but why the gnashing of teeth in the original post? Do your spending habits bother you or not? Someone else said that you should do what makes you happy at this point. You're young. I see the first post where you're upset with the way your money is spent and then I see this post saying that you're fine with it. Everyone else is going to have their own personal feelings on something like this but in the end, it's going to come down to whether you're within reason and can live with your situsation.  It sounds like you are.

Personally, the only way I pay 8.50 for a drink is if there is a naked women in front of me.  ;D

I have no futher comment on your choice of drink.... :puke:

Yeah I was bothered when I posted, I had just filled in a tax decleration (sp?) form. And saw the total amount of money I had spend over the year and thought I could have had very nice car for that money. But after a while I kinda saw that it doesn't really matter. I am having fun, so why not just keep it that way while I can. There will be a time (marriage, I can't even think about it) that I will have stop this. I also realised that I probably never will be a saver. Never saw the enjoyment of having lots of money in the bank. I like what it buys even more though. That will mean I just have to make more money.

And the 8.50 is for a drink in a club and if you do it right you get a naked woman afterwards :-X It is all worth it.

it will not be the same as spending money on Charger. First of all, all that booze is not good for your body, so youre hurting yourself in long run. Second, Charger is investment and grew in value over the years (at least mine did) even if I didnt put any work/money into it.

Sure at least you will be getting some money back for it in the long run. But you will most likely not get back what you put in it, but that's ok afterall it is a hobby. Hobby's cost money but you have to do something in your spare time to enjoy right. And really it's not like I am an alcoholic, actually I never drink unless I am going out. Ok I am going out a lot, but not every day.

Well you will do whatever you want no matter what we type. I can appreciate your situation, young, single, some money to spend and looking for a good time. IT would seem almost everyone thinks 8.50 for a drink is a lot, which to me it is.  You mention nothing about friends though, do you have any?  Can't you have a party somewhere with chics and drinks that would be cheaper than going to a club?
If it were me, I would do the best I can to get laid as much as possible (safely), spend some money to look good and be a bit flashy, but also start saving some money now because you know like everyone else does, one day you WILL need it.  I think that is what you're thinking about, the day you will need money and don't have it.
Also, if you are truely a good player, get the girls to pay for your stuff  :apimp:  I had my wife buying parts for my Charger long before we were married and I showed her how much I appreciated it too  ;)
